Some you know I recently have caught the "android bug". I've been trying to fight it off for the past few days, but it's hopeless. I purchased an unlocked Galaxy Nexus yesterday from a store based in Las Vegas, NV. It'll arrive tomorrow morning Be sure to keep an eye out of my review by Sunday.

First day impressions with the Galaxy Nexus (GSM) & Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich: - The new beta Swype keyboard for ICS is amazing. - Screen on the GNex is stunning, just as sharp as the iPhone (from what I can see). I know technically the iPhone has higher pixel density, but to the naked eye, I see no difference. - Battery life so far is about the same as my iPhone 4S - Build quality it decent on the GNex, only complaint is that the battery door creaks at the bottom a little bit. - Switching between apps (multitasking) is better than iOS IMO. - Widgets are handy on ICS - The on-screen menu buttons are much better than the iPhone's single home button IMO. - I like the sleek, slightly curved design of the GNex. - The phone doesn't seem as big as it is. It's actually more comfortable to hold in the hand than my iPhone. I have big hands, so my hand often wraps around the iPhone & I get cramped up. - Did I mention how awesome Swype is? Seriously, best keyboard I've used. More coming soon....
Why did it take so long to get Swype for ICS? It was already a feature on most other Android OS.... I use Swype on my 4S everyday as it saves me as lot of time while texting and emailing. Oh, and posting replies on forums as well. Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk.
Congrats on your purchase of the GN, it looks like a great device. Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk.
Because of the way ICS uses software buttons, the actual screen resolution available to the app is not the same as the screen resolution of the device. So it took them a while to make the necessary adjustments.
Thanks, this makes sense. Is the Swype feature for the GN built into the same keyboard on the device itself? Or was there an app in the Android market that you download to make the feature available? Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk.
Not available in the market yet, directly from Swype via beta program. It installs as an alternative keyboard, you can switch between the keyboards easily.
Congrats TWX! Looks like you a top of the line Google phone. A couple of questions? Where did you buy it, how much memory (16Gb?) and how much? Is it a hardware code maguro and the software code yakju direct from Google version? Just curious.
viewfly, I am not going to be able to answer your question ofcourse but doing a Google search it turns out that all GSM Galaxy Nexus come with the same hardware code Maguro. I am sure TWX and dmapr will post.more pertinent details about the software code. I also wanted to thank you for asking the question, it enabled us all to learn something new - nothing better than that. Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I bought it from N - egri (minus the dash) Electronics in LV. It's the 16GB model. The hardware is Maguro, but my software code isn't the direct version from Google. I can flash my GNex to get the direct Google version, but my internet has been choppy at my house today, so I haven't been able to DL the necessary software to my computer.
Thanks Charlyee, I've been curious about the Google Nexus too. Always interested in these things. This is what I came across. There are 8 different software versions of the Nexus, only one from Google, and that can receive updates directly from Google. The others maybe can be rooted to the 'official' one. Tis a shame, since ICS was meant to end fragmentation in Android. This applies only to GSM models, not CDMA. From phone scoop. Samsung Galaxy Nexus (global) Reviews (Phone Scoop) and Not all GSM Galaxy Nexus devices will be updated directly by Google | Android and Me I also just read that the 32 Gb version is being dropped by Samsung. With no SD slot, that is a shame too. I already am using 17 Gb on my iPhone. Samsung Drops the Galaxy Nexus 32GB from Production
Mine's the "yakju" version which receives updates directly from Google (not that there have been many). I agree that a card slot would be nice, but they saw fit to not make one. Dangerous move, Apple might bring forward a lawsuit for patent infringement on smartphones with no external storage... but I digress. I'm hoping to hear from TWX that he was able to successfully flash "yakju" build on his phone. While the openness of Android allows manufacturers to pull stunts like this, it's the same openness that allows XDA devs to remedy the situation
The posts discussing SD cards and Internal memory have been separated out to a new thread : http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/g...-nexus-drops-32-gb-production.html#post568284. Back to the Galaxy Nexus
Did a US charger come with the GSM GN, or the UK charger? Also, if you need need warranty assistance, can you obtain that here in the US? Just curious, Thanks. Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk.
I *think* (don't remember since I've never used it) I got a charger with pluggable plugs (sic!). There was definitely something included to make it work in US. I seriously doubt that you can get the warranty service since you can't even register it on the Samsung US website.
My GNex came with the standard North American A/C charging adapter. I don't believe you can obtain the warranty assistance.
Thanks for the info, guys. So, what do you do with your GN if you can't take it to Samsung for a warranty issue? This is why I didn't purchase a unlocked iPhone from the UK instead waiting till Apple sold the factory unlocked version here in the US. Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk.
