    I just finished setting up my new iPhone. So far it is good. I need to charge it soon.

    I am having a similar problem wih the Bionic... Data goes when the phone is sleep and doesn't resume when I wake up the phone. I don't want to go to the iPhone, but this is crazy... I have iTunes, but I hate that POS on my computer.

    The fruit is tempting though because I somehow have an upgrade on my line.... Shhhhh!

    Sorry to hear about your data problems.

    If you are hesitant to bite the "forbidden fruit", then consider another fruit, the Mango, aka WP7 Mango.

    I used one for almost a week and was quite impressed with how smooth and fluid the UI was, the speed, and the battery life.

    I do have to warn you that you will be stuck with Zune, but from all I have seen Zune plays better with PCs than iTunes and it played quite well with my MacBook Air.

    Just another option. ;)

    True... I have had ZUNE before, so that's not a issue. Verizon has only 1 WP7 phone, though. I will just deal with the Bionic ... for now. I am too spoiled by the LTE to switch despite the growing pains.

    The data dropping thing is a bug in every LTE phone. If you were to switch to a 3G only Android phone, you would be fine.

    iTunes is much smoother on a Mac.

    Gates was PO'd that Apple wrote this software for windows, creating a market that MS didn't see coming. That's not an opinion but direct from inside MS and Gates.

    Both Gates and Jobs had motivations for iTunes to run badly in windows. Probably more for Gates since they wanted the music revenue and Zune hardware $$ too, belatedly.

    iTunes on my XP was 'Ok'. I don't remember details but a vague annoyance with photo synching. Went to Mac and the garden was much nicer there. ;).

    Silly that it is that way. Together these 2 software houses could make it work better. But it must work well enough!

    I think iTunes, QuickTime and Safari are the only software Apple writes for outside iOS. MS doesn't want any of them. But MS wrote the first apps for Apple, actually for anyone - MacOffice- way back when.

    Love to hear Gamer and Yankee's reviews. Realistic expectations though - 50/50. :(

    I guess boredom is part if it. Would have thought you guys would drop back to 3G Android from LTE though

    Too bad u couldn't go with AT&T. Data speeds really rip on the AT&T 4S!

    It may be faster on AT&T, but just try and use it in NY, I dare you. Oh, there is also this:

    "@reneritchie I have less than 2 GB of data usage and ATT reduced my speed. Can you post something about it? It is ridiculous!"

    "@reneritchie AT&T classifies me as top 5% in data use because I reached 2gb data last month! I have unlimited plan so they're throttling me"

    In case you guys wish to drive around and check your dBm levels, you can display that as below...and keep it there (and toggle back and forth) out of Field Test mode as below;

    As a reminder, to get into FieldTest dial *3001#12345#* - you can then keep numerics instead of bars in the top left by force quitting FieldTest after launching it (hold down power/lock until power off appears, then hold the home button).

    Yankee: As far as data speeds...there is no contest...ATT's 3G (on the iPhone 4S) will be faster at its best, than Verizon will be in 3G, at its best. Of course you can always set up a situation where that will not be so.

    I posted elsewhere on this: Boston:

    Boston. AT&T 3G
    iPhone 4S

    4099 Down
    3308 Up

    http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/the-roaming-zone/59378-share-your-connection-speed-12.html#post566925

    And in rural area at -100 dBm I got:
    Ping 79ms;
    Downlink: 5244 kbps;
    Uplink: 1106 kbps

    I don't live in NYC...so that is not so important to me!

    If I was in Michigan, I'd be on Verizon probably like you. :)

    vf, the AT&T data speeds are definitely higher than Vzw no arguments there , I just posted my results in the other thread.

    However, I believe what Yankees is saying is that AT&T not only has poor coverage where he needs it, NYC but also less area of 3g coverage. So higher data speeds are a moot point for him.

    He does live in NYC not MI btw.

    Good grief! Did I just post in favor of Evil Red and Yankees. :eek:

    lol. Thanks everyone. Yea, coverage isn't an issue as much as it is simply AT&T speeds being crap in Metro NYC. (I moved back to NYC full time now btw). However, all carriers kinda suck in NYC. Just too many people for the networks.

    Also, thanks for the tip to get the field test DBm to stay, thats cool! I was hoping there was a way to get to field test faster. What a pain that code it.
    Btw, my 1x (800mhz) signal is -75, but my Ev signal (1900mhz) is -96. Yuck.

    Yep Charlyee, I did get his point ;) I know that NYC'er think its the center of the world :), but drive just north outside of the city, and he will be in high speed land, and elsewhere...maybe cheering the RedSox up here in Boston.....LOL

    Was thinking of Gamer too.
    Yep, and it will carry through with each iOS upgrade, so no need to do it ever again. Also, just tap the dBm number and it will go back to bars. Tap again to reverse.

    Very useful....Amazing that code must go back before Nokia, back to Motorola.

    Enjoy your phone. Be sure to turn on HDR for photos... (and don't save the non-hdr versions). works really well for bright/dark photos. Almost never need a flash either.

    Oh, don't worry. I used to take all my pics in HDR on my Android phones.
    So this force quitting of the field test app, I don't quite understand what you mean by carry over. It won't need to be done again after restarting the phone?

    Yes that is correct. But more importantly if you upgrade to say iOS 5.5 or 6 in the future, it will stay with your phone. only restoring as a new phone (not back up) will lose it.

    Fancy, I like that. Too bad it only shows my usually great 1x signal, and not my usually crappy Ev signal. But it sure is cool. The ideas for my review are pending.

    When my iPhone switches from 3G to EDGE (or pre iPhone4S when I could do that manually), the dBm display would reflect 3G or EDGE...and they would be different sometimes. I posted about this before...question was whether the 3G dBm was really RSSI or something else (some number related to Eb/I). Never figured it out, and pretty much forgot about it.

    Perhaps you numbers will change depending if in voice or data mode...Just a thought.

    The same goes for me. My iPhone finally died after being on for 22 hours and 38 minutes. That includes running exchange and moderate use. One thing that I like is I don't have to use a smart action to tell my phone to turn off background data when the screen is off to help preserve battery life. I am now fully charging it while the phone is off.

    Well I tried out the Apple iPhone 4S for a full week. After having it for a week, I have decided to return it. While it is a good device, I miss certain things on Android. For example, I miss the ability of having custom launchers on my phone. I also miss widgets. At first I thought I wouldn't miss these two things, but having widgets is faster than having to scroll through different screens in order to perform a function. For example, you have to go into a few screens in order to turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone. On my Android, I can flip a button on my widget and it is on.

    While the display resolution is really good on the iPhone, the 3.5" screen is too small for me. I thought that it wouldn't be too big of a deal at first, but in the end watching videos on the iPhone while on the go is not that enjoyable due to its size. Also, I have found that in the same areas as my both my RAZR and Droid X, my iPhone data speeds aren't as fast as my Android phones. I am guessing that is due to the chips that each device utilizes. I am glad, however, that I gave the iPhone a full week to test it out before I made my decision. But in the end, I miss Android and I am going back to that for the foreseeable future. On a side note, I am selling my RAZR on eBay. As of right now, I am leaning towards the RAZR Maxx when it comes out, due to the battery capacity size.
