Remember to set your clocks back an hour before you go to bed tonight unless you are in the areas that dont do it like hawaii and arizona.
For the U.S. and its territories, Daylight Saving Time is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Arizona, and most of the Eastern Time Zone portion of Indiana. The Navajo Nation participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, even in Arizona, due to its large size and location in three states.
If you get confused (or if you're like me and are ____ about the clocks reading the same time throughout the house), just call the US Naval Observatory recording on 1 (202) 762 14 01.
Am I seeing things or is the clock on WA still on DST?. We set our clocks this morning, now it's going to be dark when I get home from work
I snap up discount priced, closeout, etc. versions of clocks set by WWVB. It's the 60 kHz standard time station of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. I expect you've heard of WWV and WWVH, operating on standard frequencies of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 MHz. You can recognize a receiver/clock by a button or switch labed "DST". The clock couldn't know about Daylight Saving Time, unless it has an external reference--radio! All my clocks reset themselves on ST/DST transitions. ShoresGuy can tell us about a similar German time standard station, with receivers built into any appliance that needs a clock--no setting required. COtech
We have one of those clocks in my bedroom...in addition, Verizon of course set our phones for us, and my car is set to change the clocks automagically as well. In 2007, they're changing the law so that DST will go from mid-March to mid-November. I'm not happy about this -- my wife gets bad seasonal-affective disorder when she has to wake up in the dark (at 7:00 AM!!).
Great, trick or treaters at 1:00 A.M. :loony: At least when it went back right before Halloween the little candy beggars were done by 9:30 or so.
I hope they realized the amount of money it would take to change all that stuff, all the computers, and software that would have to be changed for that to actually work on automatic. Personally I think we could do away with DST.
Germany and most of Europe set their clocks ahead an hour a week before the US does but in the fall they set their clocks back an hour on the same Sunday as the US does. I set my clocks back an hour on Sunday morning when I woke up, my MDA II and laptop did this automatically already.
I have the "main computer" here at my store synch w/ NIST.gov once a week. For all the other computers in the store I made an MS-DOS batch file that synchronizes the system clock with the main computer every time the computer is rebooted. This way all the computers are synchronized perfectly and when a customer says "I was here before 9am, what do you mean my clothes aren't ready?" I can say, no Sir, you came at 9:05 and your clothes will be ready tomorrow after 5pm. There also is a clock in our lobby that synchronizes with NIST via radio, that has not changed yet, I may have to get a ladder out and manually set it. Maybe it has something to do with us having replaced the battery 2 weeks ago. Not sure.
In Tennessee, Daylight Saving will go a month longer starting next year. Now that it's brighter in the morning, I may start taking the earlier bus.
I should add that our vcr/dvd player set itself back an hour. I thought that it was worth mentioning that.
My cell phone, the Cable TV box and VCRs around the house all set themselves automatically. I didn't even notice the time had changed until I saw my wrist watch had an hour ahead!
My sundial didn't automatically adjust itself. j/k I swear I re-set the microwave clock, but this morning it was still an hour ahead. Those kitchen gnomes must be playing a trick on me.
I did it. It was a halloween prank. I reset everyone's microwave ovens back! I forgot, did I make your VCR flash 12:00 too?
So here's a funny story. Both, my manager and another coworker showed up an hour early to work on Sunday and were wondering where everyone else was. We also had two clients that came an hour early, not knowing it was Daylight Savings Time...I loved it...more sleep.
Lol...that is pretty funny. My clocks in my classes were set an hour later than it really. My PDA also updated to the correct time. Off-topic: On a side note, I just figured out how to stream internet radio stations on my pda (I am listening to DI (Digitally Imported) European trance/dance as I type wirelessly on my PDA).
I shall dispatch my minions ASAP! Professor Chaos will not rest until he rules the Earth, starting with your microwave.
