I just noticed in Network Settings that Data Roaming was set to Off. Do I need to turn it on when I travel outside my local area or is the whole of the US not considered roaming? I am traveling to Idaho tomorrow and was wondering if I need to turn Data Roaming on when I get there.
Nothing to do. You are all set. While in the US, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, etc, you are on the unlimited data plan. The setting is Data Roaming Off. That button comes into play when you travel outside the US. and it's territories. Like Europe. It is set to off, so that you don't rack up charges for data roaming. If in Europe, and you wish to check email, etc, you must turn Data Roaming on. Also, say in Europe, you will not see the 3G icon appear unless data roaming is ON. You are still may be using 3G for voice, but the icon is really a symbol for Data usage. In Japan, there is only 3G for voice. But without data roaming on, the icon does not appear. It works well. P.S. I'm enjoying the new 3G S. Love the camera's macro and autofocus. And the speed is quite noticeable
Good to hear! I really like the camera and the video too. The only thong missing is a zoom - I heard there's a zoom app and I might look into that.
Yeah. On all these cameras, the zoom is just zooming the pixels, not the optics. That can always be done in software later, or just multi touching the original. If your travels take you to a place with poor 3G coverage, flip to 2G in the settings. That way your battery will not drain constantly looking for a 3G signal.
P.S. I'm going bare on the screen too. The oleophobic coating is very nice. I figure that after a year of not dropping my phone, I'm ok.
Yep. I am amazed at how nice the oleophobic screen is. Usually the reality on these kinds of things rarely live up to the hype but in this case it really works. My wife has a screen protector on her's and it gets really greasy by the end of the day whereas mine gets dusty from sitting in my pant pocket but has almost no oily residue fey fingers or my cheeks.
