Ok, what is Verizon doing? This morning I got a frantic call from my non tech savy SO; he is getting an "your call can not be dialed..." error and getting prompted to dial the area code for local calls from his Verizon phone. I asked him call me from the landline & also the at&t PAYG, and both went through without having to dial the area code. So why is Verizon trying to make my life difficult ?....
Charlyee, Don't you know that is the goal of Verizon to drive you & others crazy with their evil empire? You will learn the dark sides way's :lmao:
Lol, Fire One Four, the Evil Empire may have just given me the perfect reason to leave them. Since I have to have a CDMA phone for Western WI & parts of IA, I just have to make sure that this is not a CDMA thing & then I will switch from Verizon to USCC.....:
Oh come on...you are looking at leaving Verizon because you have to dial an area code for some numbers? You are just looking for an excuse to leave. I do think that going to U.S. Cellular would be a good idea, though.
Got ya. Well that's weird, maybe there is an issue with the switch or something, but I still think You and U.S. Cellular would be a great fit.
All right! I figured out the problem. My Verizon phone is always on forced extended (USCC), & it needs the area code even for local numbers. If I take it off extended 7 digit is all that is needed. The only way I can get a useable signal at home is to force it to extended. This must the first time he used it from home to dial a local number that was not in the phonebook. In the phonebook they are all entered as 10 digit numbers. Interestingly he thinks for the small areas that Verizon covers better than at&t it is not worth the hassle & wants me to port the number over to my at&t PAYG account. Hopfully that explanation made some sense.
So what you are saying is that USCC needs the 10 digit dialing vs Verizon & since he didn't use the phone book that's where the problem came in. Interesting, so being his phone needs to be forced roaming it's not worth keeping the Verizon phone, now these small area's that it does cover better, is that on the USCC network or Verizon's native network? To me it sounds like he will be happy with the PAY AS YOU GO phone once you migrate it over and what's the worst that can happen, he finds it not good enough & you port to USCC right?
You know that actually crossed my mind...When roaming, even if you are roaming in your home market, you have to dial the ten digit telephone number. I assume your husband is not a very heavy user since he wants you to port over to PAYG?
Ah! lots of good questions USCC does not need 10 digits but since the Verizon phone is technically roaming when forced to USCC it needs the 10 digits. The small areas are native Verizon but USCC is still their roaming partner in those areas. Yes absolutely I have nothing to lose I can always port over to USCC.
Geez Andy, why didn't you say something before. I was counting on you . Yes he is a very light user, I may look at the PYOP instead for roaming partner coverage which as you know the PAYG does not have.
Yes much appreciated thank you, it clarified my original post. Now if I didn't have the answers I wouldn't thought your questions were good at all
LOL... Charlyee to bad I didnt see this post first thing I could have told you your problem first off./:browani:
