My wife and I each have the old Un-Plan with SunCom, unlimited local minutes and 300 roaming minutes each month. The last few trips out of the area, her phone goes into emergency use only mode while mine switches to Cingular and works fine. When I called SunCom, they couldn't figure it out and ask that my wife call them the next time she's out of the area and her phone goes into emergency only mode so they can troubleshoot.:loony: This just seems crazy to me, I don't want to waste my time with them trying to figure this out, I want a phone on a network that works! I told them I will be switching to a different provider.

Those wacky guys over there at SunCom... How did they expect you to call when the phone is in "Emergency Only" mode? I doubt the 911 operator will transfer the call.

I doubt it! LOL. That is what I asked the rep, how can she call if the phone is in 911 mode. Her response was "she'll have to pull off and use another phone"
Yeah, right. What a waste of time.

:loony: Boy you have that right...Get this: My family and I relocated to Montgomery, Alabama and when I visited after my husband already had moved there after 2 weeks, I was getting v.m. prompts and caller id. I haven't moved in for just a week, and they took that away from us, saying that another carrier isn't allowing us to have that service to our phone. I said, "but I was just there last week visiting, and for a whole weekend, I was getting caller id and v.m. prompts, how do you explain that??" She didn't have an explanation, both these customer service reps. weren't of my ethnicity and their names were Shamone #51490; and Adrian (girl) #40143. Neither one of them would transfer me to their supervisor, or to TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE DEPARTMENT!!!! Neither one would. So, I tried to file a bbb complaint in NC where they originate from, and they are a member of the bbb and there's no way to file a complaint unless I go through the company itself. I guess I should go on their site and post one. Thank God there's this site to voice a wrongdoing. I hope they read this too, and people who are thinking of joining suncom.

I finally got the answer to this problem. The Suncom rep told me Cingular cut them off from roaming on their towers. She thought maybe the national plan could but wasn't sure. Their agreement is with TMobile. Here's from their web site: "Access to largest GSM network in America." What good is this if they can't use it. CRAZY! Knoxville, TN has no TMobile service! They are a mickey mouse company!!

T-mobile does have 15 MHz and 10 MHz license and a network.
The problem it is very small (only a few towers) and so T-mobile does not provide wireless service in Knoxville. They don't even let there own customers roam on that network when they are in Knoxville. They roam on Cingular and Suncom.
For the past few years there has been talk about T-Mobile adding a bunch of towers and launching service, but nothing has happened yet.
