I've been using a Nokia 5310 for over three years and did get an iPhone 4. I've hesitated to make my iPhone my main phone because the initial unit I got had problems. It would randomly lose carrier as well as some other faults. I got a replacement from Apple for $150 about a month or so ago. Since I've not had the losing carrier problem I decided that it was "safe" to go through the process of getting my Mini-SIM cut to a micro-SIM and have had the iPhone 4 as my main phone for almost two weeks. This is my experience and it may not be anyone else's, but I have to say the iPhone has the absolute worst audio quality for phone calls I have ever experienced with a GSM phone. Prior to using the iPhone my call quality has been on par with a land line phone. The iPhone is horrible and as soon as I can switch out Mini-SIM and Micro-SIM I will ditch the iPhone for my main phone. It's painful to use the iPhone for voice calls. Also, for simple things like making a calendar entry, a note or any simple thing like setting an alarm it's oh so much quicker on a dumb phone. Everything else on the iPhone works fine, Voice quality is terrible.

I don't what to tell you. When I had the iPhone 4 on ATT, the call quality was superb.

You have been around here long enough to know what affects call quality. Plus if you have no case on the 4, and you are below 5 bars, you can be subject to antenna gate. It could also be bad audio/radio hardware. Unless you just don't wish to use the iPhone 4, I'd take it to Apple for a diagnosis. Antenna gate was fixed with the 4S and beyond.

I cannot see how using Notes can be painful in anyway whatsoever. Open app and type.

I have a case and I am well familiar with things that can affect audio quality. I only know that presently using the iPhone 4 for me is painful. Considering that I just paid $150 to swap out a unit that I had and get a replacement from Apple I'm not going to be pleased at all if it turns out I've got another defective unit.

If you go back and read my post I did not say anything about it being painful to make a note. I said that it was easier to make a note from a dumb phone.

    Hello Telekom, long time.

I don't understand how making notes or calendar entries is easier from a dumb phone than from a Smartphone. To each their own I guess.

In any case are you just complaining/venting about your iPhone 4 or looking for help and/or suggestions? Please explain. :)

I mean at least to me it's simpler doing it on a dumb phone for some things. To take the example for a note. One motion to unlock. To selections with the "joy stick" select notes. Compose note. Save.

On iPhone: Wake phone, swipe to unlock, enter passcode. Search for notes app. Open app make note.

Well it's just me. I don't agree at all with you here. Firstly you don't need a password. Secondly typing a note with a numerical keypad takes longer. And how often does one remember to save? iPhone auto save is better.

If I had spent $150 on a phone without making an attempt to have it diagnosed, and let the 90 warranty expire- that's a waste if money. You got to make the effort instead of jumping the gun and whining.

Google ANY phone and there are complaints of bad audio. But the majority opinion, when the phone is working and the network is good is that the iPhone 4 quality was on par.

The 4 was not designed for tmobile usa. Google doesn't bring up major complaints about audio with the two. S**t happens and maybe yours is defective. Personally I would have gone for the 4S or 5.

If I've spent several hundred dollars on a phone I'd be silly not to put a password on my phone. It's got all my personal information on it. If someone found it I sure would not want someone to have access to that. Never mind that someone could just wipe my data and program it with their own if they stole it.

Typing a note with the keypad is not slower if you have predictive text.

It doesn't matter if the iPhone 4 wasn't designed for T-Mobile USA. It was designed to work on any GSM network.

I would like an iPhone 5S with 64 GB memory and a data plan that includes 50 GB of data too. I can't afford that either.

Whatever works is what people should use.

    I agree with Charlyee.

Telekom. If the advantages of a smartphone like the iPhone are that important to you and you were willing to dish out $150 for a 3 year old designed phone (instead $199 for a 32Gb 5C), I'd certainly would have Apple look at it under warranty, instead accepting that all iPhones have crappy voice compared to your old dumb phone. It's just not so.

The 4 doesn't work on t mobile 3G networks. Around where I live there are more 3G WCDMA transmitters than ole GSM voice. So gsm voice coverage is not what it uses to be.

However you're comparing your all gsm phone to the 2G gsm of the iPhone 4. So I suspect a hardware problem. Or network.

We are trying to help you out here by offering suggestions and my personal experience with the iPhone voice. That's all guy.

However my wife often complains that I try to problem solve everything too much. Sometimes I'm suppose to just listen.

So if you just wish to rant, I get it.

Just a reminder, the $200 for an iPhone 5C is the price for a contracted phone. Perhaps Telekom doesn't want to get into a lengthy contact with a carrier. The 5C starts at $550 without a contract. The 4s is $450.

Also, the iPhone 4 has WCDMA on 1900, so it would get '4G' on it, albeit on a limited scale.

Then take it to looked at instead of living with it.

    Lol Telekom, you are funny.

All I am trying to do is figure out if the forum members should spend their time trying to come up with explanations and suggestions to help you.

If you are simply venting, then we will just move on. :)

Don't patronize me. And for your information just adding "LOL" or ":)" to your post does not make your post humorous. I was looking for legitimate advice or corroboration of my problem and all you can do is "LOL" at me. You're not a help.

Ok Telekom, you seem to be going out of your way to pick a fight. So enough is enough, this thread is now closed.

If you are genuinely looking for help, do as viewfly said, get it replaced.

Oh thanks for defining patronize for me.
