A colleague in NH has Verizon and lives 1/8 mile from the beach. At the beach, she indicates Verizon coverage is lousy, hardly picks up a signal. Running a check through T-Mobile Personal Coverage Check for the same beach and it indicated "good" signal coverage. Coverage may not be the same at all beaches.

VZW is ok on some South Jersey and Delaware beaches.

for NJ, Atlantic City is spotty, especailly near TRUMP and inside most Casinos. Sea Isle is good, as is Stone Harbor and most of Avalon.

In Delaware Fenwick Island near OC, md. is good on VZW.

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The unofficial start of
summer is upon us. Memorial Day is traditionally the first summer get-away
    weekend for beach-goers.
Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, today
highlighted its commitment to provide outstanding network performance and a
world-class wireless experience for customers using their service when driving
down to beaches in southern New Jersey and Delaware.
The project includes the addition of four new cell sites in Beach Haven
Park, Longport, Woodbine and Buckshutem. Additional areas of coverage
improvement also include Stone Harbor, Wildwood, Avalon, South Seaside Park,
    North Cape May, and Burleigh.
"We are aggressively putting up new sites to give our customers in
southern New Jersey and Delaware more bars in more places, so that they have
the very best wireless network experience when they're at home, at work or
driving down to Atlantic City or Rehoboth Beach this summer," said Dan Lafond,
Cingular Wireless Vice President and General Manager for Greater Philadelphia.
Plus for those rainy days at the shore, Cingular announced it has improved
its in-building wireless coverage at Trump Plaza, Trump Taj Mahal and Trump
Marina in Atlantic City and in many of the most popular shopping malls in
southern New Jersey and Delaware including Ocean County Mall, Hamilton Mall in
May's Landing and the Rehoboth Outlet Centers.

Yes I saw this posted previously, keeping in mind that it is advertising a press release, Cingular may have more coverage in AC, VZW apparently could care
    less.

I could care less either too,
    but whatever works for anybody.

ROSELAND, N.J., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The unofficial start of summer is
upon us. Memorial Day is traditionally the first summer get-away weekend for
    beach-goers.
Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, today
highlighted its commitment to provide outstanding network performance and a
world-class wireless experience for customers using their service when driving
    down the shore.
So far, this year, Cingular has turned on-air more than 25 new cell sites
throughout New Jersey and has improved network coverage in many popular shore
spots including Asbury Park, Bay Head, Long Branch, Long Beach Island,
Manasquan, Mantoloking, Monmouth Beach, Point Pleasant, Seaside Heights, and
    South Belmar.
"We are aggressively putting up new sites to give our customers in New
Jersey more bars in more places, so that they have the very best wireless
network experience when they're at home, at work or driving down to Long Beach
Island this summer," said Tom DeVito, Cingular Wireless Vice President and
General Manager for New York/New Jersey.
Plus for those rainy days at the beach, Cingular says it's improved in
building wireless coverage at many of the shore's most popular shopping malls
and other locations including, Ocean County Mall, Hamilton Mall in Mays
Landing and the Monmouth Park racetrack.
The company is constantly monitoring its network and that of its
competition, driving approximately 95,000 miles per month throughout
Cingular's New York/New Jersey market. That's equivalent to nearly four
    complete trips around the earth!
Cingular continues to enhance its network daily in New Jersey and
throughout the metropolitan New York area. This year, Cingular Wireless plans
to spend more than $6 billion nationally to add thousands of new cell sites
    and to fine-tune network performance.

I noticed in A/C Cingular has decent coverage in most casino's. I had a problem & found out it was my V400 & not the signal, since my wifes T721 had coverage in them.
I did notice Orange had a better signal then Blue, especially in the Tropicana, which must have a good signal from T-Mobile.
I haven't been to too many other beaches this year, so can't help on other locations.

Cingular is much better than Verizon at the Delaware beaches. Verizon only has 1 tower in each town (2 in Rehobeth, still needs more) which leads to a clogged/awful network in Bethany, though it's OK in Dewey/Rehobeth/Fenwick. Sprint is pretty bad at all of them. T-Mobile is actually pretty good due to well placed antennas and micro-cells. Don't expect much rural T-Mobile coverage, but at the beaches proper, they are pretty good. I hear Nextel is good in Sussex county Delaware as well. Have fun!

I had good luck at Fenwick as you mentioned. atlantic City NJ is real spotty with Verizon on the Boardwalk in front of the casinos and OK by the Brigantine casinos.

Yes, that whole area is good. Wonder why they don't have better Atlantic City coverage. I have been to casino restaurants where T mobile works and I get no signal. even on the boardwalk there are sure cut off spots on VZW.
Its not the phones. Thanks for the info.

AWS use to have just 1 cell site in Wildwood, NJ (on top of the water tower in the city part of wildwood) and service was non-existant with GSM, but had great service roaming/extended area with Cingular TDMA. As of last year I had great GSM coverage all over the Wildwood area and in Cape May. Coverage use to be rough on the Garden State Parkway between Atlantic City and Wildwood, but it appears to be much better now.

I haven't had problems using my cell in the casino's, they just won't let you use them at any of the tables.
