Ohhhh fancy! I have actually been researching these recently, as the Verizon reception at my moms school is...uh, terrible. This must be the one spot in Brooklyn that Verizon forgot to cover well. Everyone else is ok, even Sprint. After I made my family switch over to Verizon, there is no way I can get them to switch out again! I dug my grave here.

    * your cellular carrier's name
    Verizon Wireless
    * make and model of your phones/devices
    Motorola Droid 2
    * what your current cell reception is like, if any at all
On a good day, usually about a -95 to a -102 850mhz signal on 1x, with NO 1900 EVDO signal indoors. At the windows, usually about -100 on both frequencies.
    * what are the nearby terrain or tree obstruction conditions
The nearby terrain is multi-story residential dwellings, typical Brooklyn.

Same Here. Ive spent that last few weeks researching also. I have really spotty coverage at my home. I have 1-2 bars and drop calls constantly. I used Alltel for 10 years with great service. Then Verizon purchased Alltel and my troubles started. My cell signal was cut in my neighborhood for some reason. All my neighbors that were Verizon and Alltel customers lost their signals. When the cutover was complete I was left a Alltel(Atlantic Tel) customer with no signal. and the ones who were cutover to verizon had their signals increase, not alot, but enough to make calls. I decided to Go with AT&T which works great everywhere but my home.

    *your cellular carrier's name: AT&T
*make and model of your phones/devices : iPhone 3gs&4
*what your current cell reception is like, if any at all : 1-2 bars of spotty coverage
*what are the nearby terrain or tree obstruction conditions: Flat terrain with a few trees.

Oooh, this is an easy one for me. I have Sprint and they suck at my house (despite their coverage maps claims to the contrary). The main problem is (most likely) the repeater site Sprint has near my house just doesn't work well. Signal strength is in the high -90s or low -100s. Terrible. I even have an Airave from Sprint but I still drop calls and roam on Verizon at home.

    *your cellular carrier's name: Sprint
*make and model of your phones/devices : BlackBerry Style, Palm Pixi, LG Lotus
*what your current cell reception is like, if any at all : -95db or worse
*what are the nearby terrain or tree obstruction conditions: very flat, not many trees, but lots of houses.

I work in remote oilfield locations. They have satellite phones but they are for "Work only".
I have been looking at the Maximum Signal Amps to keep in touch with my wife and kids.

We live in skid mounted metal shacks (think sheet metal trailer house or Faraday cage with windows). Verizon has the only even partially reliable service around here. I'm using a casio GZone phone. Most of the time I have no signal. If I go to a window or outside I have one bar of 1X and 1 bar of 3G (sorry I found test mode for this phone but it doesn't seem to have RSSI). We are about 25 miles from the tower (SE of Cheyenne, WY) but the terrain is flat, with few obstructions. Even outside, call quality is very poor. In a typical 15 min call to my wife, It drops completely at least twice with several "can you hear me now" moments in between.

Using a friends Droid, I get -104db inside and -97db held up to a window.

I run a small seasonal fishing resort in northern Minnesota, I have Verizon wireless as a carrier, I recently purchased a home connect device from verizon,I also have a palm pre plus. We are trying to rid ourselves of qwest and their outrageous land line charges. Verizon & the palm pre are one of our only option for internet as qwest does not offer this service in our location. The speed of the internet is about as fast as dial up service while we are inside our buildings, however when I take my Palm Pre outside and place it at the end of one of our docks the speed improves, when I'm in my fish house on the lake I can stream video with my lap top useing the palm pre as a wi fi hot spot.
I believe we are on the edge of coverage, if I take a boat ride 2 miles north my phone will not work at all.
I believe, the closest verizon tower is about 15 miles away
    .

For phone service I thought I would try the home connect device this year and do away with the land line. We moved our 800# over to a Canadian carrier because no Cell companies deal with 800#s The 800# will be forwarded to the home connect device once it's active and all numbers are ported. I'm hopeing the home connect device will get better reception than my palm pre which currently has so so service while moving around in the building which is located about 50' feet from the lake we are on. We have a number of towering pine trees that may effect reception in the building.

I don't know what else you would like to know.....I work at the University of Notre Dame, in a basement lab surrounded by block and concrete and lots of water pipe and heat/cooling conduit overhead. No one's cell phones work in the lab, except a visiting student from France. If I put my phone in a 6-in dia metal bucket, I get great a WiFi connection. I was considering making a directional antenna of some sort for the 850 Mhz band, that's when I stumbled upon this site.

    * your cellular carrier's name- Sprint
    * make and model of your phones/devices- Palm Pre and HTC EVO Shift
    * what your current cell reception is like, if any at all- -90's inside the house, -110+ outside. Sometimes Roaming on US Cellular for some odd reason-no connectivity to airave.
    * what are the nearby terrain, building or tree obstruction conditions- Just houses. Otherwise pretty flat. Multiple farm fields.

I have Sprint with an airvana at home. Signal is ok with that. When I am outside it gets choppy. When leaving the house, the call drops. It will not transfer to the tower and when I get home I lose the call because signal is so bad the tower loses me and the airave won't pick up the handoff (even though I keep hearing the airvana is supposed to handoff). My boost friends can get on the internet on my airvana, but it won't let them make calls or send/receive texts. Sprint blames Boost...and Boost blames Sprint. Neither one will troubleshoot. Verizon is VERY weak here too. One bar...broken up calls. No idea what the dBm is, but it is bad.

Which will make it all the more depressing when I lose to someone that lives adjacent to a tower. :lmao:

My reception problems seem to come and go. More than not anymore I have problems. The nearest tower to me is about 10 miles away. I am also on a hillside so I have to deal with pilot pollution and hand off issues. Local Verizon techs have told me I am in a "known trouble area".

    * your cellular carrier's name
    Verizon Wireless
    * make and model of your phones/devices
    LG VX8370, Motorola Droid 2
    * what your current cell reception is like, if any at all
I usually get around a signal of -80 but with 10 towers fighting for my signal it can be a pain.
    * what are the nearby terrain, building or tree obstruction conditions
I live on a hillside where the nearest towers are 10 miles away from me.

I get overall ok reception at home, but as I head down my road toward the next town (Cowpens),
signal may degrade rapidly, and sometimes it happens at home as well.
My phone may switch between Verizon (Spartanburg switch SID 139) & Alltel (Gaffney switch SID 114),
even at home, depending on which side of the house I'm on.
I live about 3 miles away from the county line. Across the county line is where the Alltel native coverage officially ends.

*My carrier is ALLTEL (Allied Wireless)

*My phones are LG AX4270 and an LG AX390 as a backup

*At home my signal strength is about -75 to -90 yet sometimes my calls will drop as there are
3 or 4 different towers that can hit my phone, and it drops sometimes when I move around
(unsuccessful handoff to the other towers).

*I live in an open field where a tower 11 miles to my south, 6 miles to my NE,
and 3 miles to my NW will hit my phone. If my phone is idle and I'm on the south side of my house,
my phone may lock on to the tower 11 miles south of me and for some reason I can't make or recieve calls when it latches to that tower,
I would have to go to the north end of my house to pick up the towers near the interstate 85 (near exit 87 & 92).

what your current cell reception is like, if any at all:

I have been looking into a signal booster for my lake house for some time now. This lake house is in a dip surrounded by hills and trees and the indoor signal is very spotty. VZW is the only carrier to at least get somewhat of a signal, but it is still frustrating to drop calls and have slow data, especially considering I do not have cable/DSL internet there. Certain spots outdoors I can have an hour long phone call and get 3G data, but especially during the cold winter months I find myself leaned up against the window indoors in hopes the call will not drop.

what are the nearby terrain, building or tree obstruction conditions:

The house is in a dip, surrounded by hills and trees and a lake. Not sure if all the geese around the lake are causing my signal to deteriorate ;)

The contest is closed to new entries -- Now to pick a winner!

Usually I put slips of paper in a can and pull out the winners. Since there are exactly 10 entries, I'm going to do it another way that may be more fun.

    1. From the top down, I'm going to number the posts 1 to 10
    2. The winner will be determined by the last digit in the powerball number of tonight's (4/1/11) Mega Millions drawing.
    3. The entry number 10 = 0
    4. If the powerball number is 41 or greater the winner will not be determined and will then use each subsequent drawing until the powerball number is 40 or lower. (Possible numbers are 1-46 and drawings are held every Tues and Fri.)

Mega Millions drawings are at 11pm Eastern time and you can see the numbers here:
    Mega Millions Official Home
We are using the YELLOW ball on the right. If the last digit on that ball matches the entry number I've put in your post, YOU ARE THE WINNER!

    GOOD LUCK TO ALL! :thumb:

Thank you so much everyone :) Also a special thanks to JFB & MaximumSignal.

Ironically I do live adjacent to a tower but not one that you or I can use, AT&T & T-Mobile are on it.
Also we might be moving somewhere else in this town soon to a much lower signal area.
