    CONTEST!

It has been quite a while since we had a contest so let's make this a big one.

I couldn't decide whether to call this contest
The Webmaster Needs a New Phone Contest

    or
    The Wisdom of Crowds Contest.

I need a new phone bad and I'm going to leave the selection entirely up to the WA community.
You guys can stick it to me with the worst crap phone out there or the nicest smartphone available. (w/ some small exceptions; see the rules below.)

So how is this a contest?
Any WA member with more than 10 on-topics posts is eligible for two entries in this contest. The winner will be chosen at random from those entered.

    How do you enter?

#1 Post in this thread with your suggestion for which phone I should buy.
#2 Vote in the poll for the final selection.
(If you only do one of the above you get only one entry. Once the poll starts #1 is closed.)

    Prizes:
    1st: $250 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com
    2nd: $100 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com
    3rd: $50 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com
4th: Choice of any available WA shirt
5th: Choice of any available WA shirt

    When does it end?
I don't know yet. Let's see how it goes, but it won't run for more than 60 days...I'm hurtin' bad for a new phone. :(

    Some more Rules:
    • The selected phone can not cost more than $1000. (so no Vertu).
    • No iPhone...cause I just don't want one. :p
    • Phone has to be for a tier 1 carrier, you can specify which one or not in your suggestion.
    • Sorry, no substitutions on the prizes.
    • Everyone except administrators is eligible for this contest.

That's pretty much it. The contest starts NOW in this thread. :hyper:

Tell me what phone to get...it is entirely up to the WA community. :bigear:

I'll answer questions about the contest, but I won't offer any input on the phone choice.

    Phone: HTC Mogul
Reason: I would recommend this device due to EVDO (upgradable to EVDO Rev. A), Windows Mobile 6, and 2.0 Megapixel Camera. I also see that you have a Sirius portable player and you could install the Sirius WM5 player to listen to your subscription. Also, the reception on the Mogul is awesome.

If you are sticking with Sprint I would say the Mogul for all of the reasons Gamer03 mentioned above with WM6 plus reliablility. I am a Sprint tech and I never see problems that aren't user caused with these. The advantage of the Mogul is that you also get the full QWERTY keyboard which I find great to use and _________s beyond the 6700 or other QWERTY models like the ENV.

I would say go with the Razr 2 on what ever carrier you decide if you stay with Sprint this would be a good choice. It is thin fits in the pocket well can take a beating.

The phone I think you really should get is the HTC Tilt with ATT service (You said we can switch your carrier on you)

I went to the store today and I was genuinely impressed with the Tilt. It comes with GPS software, but is also capable of running TOM TOM, or any other GPS application. It was nice and comfortable to hold, and the tilt mechanisim seemed pretty solid. The more I look the more I want the Tilt. In the previous post I suggested the Razr 2. This is also a phone that I am personally considering.

Man, after a quick look at a few US operators web sites, they don't give you much of a selection :O I thought America was all about freedom?

Anyway, if I was forced to choose something from their meager selection, I'd probably go with the (3G) Motorola V3xx:

MOTORAZR V3xx Cell Phone - Wireless from AT&T, formerly Cingular

...altho it doesn't have 900Mhz GSM, so that's -1 point if you plan to travel abroad :(.

    I'd really reccomend my SonyEricsson W810 since it's quad-band, but I don't see it on AT&T's list :O

    W810i - Specifications - - Mobile phone - Sony Ericsson

If you are looking at other carriers, I woud recommend AT&T since they are very good here in NJ and a Palm Treo 750 or a BlackJack are my suggestions.
I hear the 750 is a good phone or if you prefer then a BB would be another good selection.

It depends I guess on what you plan on doing with the phone & if you can use MS office applications then a WM based phone would be a nice benefit. If it's strickly for calls & sms then I have been happy with my V3xx.

Joe, if you are looking at at&t , I would highly recommend the Treo 750.

Good luck with your choice. :)

I would probably also recommend the RAZR 2 for you if you are planning staying with Sprint. I guess it really comes down to what features you want to have in a phone, but the new RAZR is a very neat device for Sprint. And as to switching carriers- why try to fix something that ain't broken. ;)

I'll throw my vote for the Razr 2 as well. I completely despise the first Razr, but even I've been eying the reincarnation myself for a short while now. Plus, it will be available for all carriers sooner or later.

BINGO...gamers, I could not have said it any better. If you stick with Sprint, the Mogul is the phone for you! It's highly customizable and the functions it serves is just unreal. Therefore, my vote is for the SPRINT MOGUL.

How about the Blackberry 8830? It's global, it's available on Sprint and Verizon, and it's not 'frilly' like the other phones... (I see that the admin has the old school Samsung A500). Furthermore, I think that the Sprint version is SIM unlocked; so he can use the phone with any GSM carrier while overseas without beiong raked over the coals by Sprint.

It is a big technology jump from your current phone but the Sprint Mogul may be a great choice for you if you like feature packed phones.
    My vote- HTC Mogul

I would go with the RAZR V9m. It will be a big enough jump in features for a a500 owner to keep you busy for a while. And for me all my Moto phones/devices have had great RF and sound quality. :)

Sprint PCS - happily holding crystal clear calls!
    Palm Centro!

    I would have to say:

    Carrier: Sprint
    Phone: Palm Centro
    Reason:

    1. The Centro is only $99.99 (after online savings & rebate) - fits your price!
    2. Is a Smartphone, so you can not only dial with it, but surf the web and SMS like IM too!
    3. It has a nice look to it, pretty flashy if I do say so myself
    4. Qwerty keyboard, and full touch screen
    5. 1.3MGP Camera/Bluetooth/EvDo/MP3/Speakerphone which make for a better all-around experience
    6. Palm's smallest smart device out there

Also its on the Sprint Network. So you get the security of the ESN (where if you loose your phone you can have it blacklisted), ESN swapping (on Ensemble bililng) so just go online switch phones at anytime you want, in-market roaming if the Sprint network is acting up or something, true unlimited data, great plans (like SERO), the Sprint-To-Mobile Pick 3 feature, and full functional bluetooth.

Is Sprint getting the Z6m Rokr? If so I suggest that over the razr 2. Jumping to Mogul might be somewhat of a shell shock...:)

I would also suggest going with the AT&T Tilt. If you do not want to change providers, and depneidng on your needs, with Sprint go for the HTC as was recomended and next in line is the Razr2 for regular phne with some added features..

I think the HTC Mogul is the way to go with Sprint.

If not the Mogul, then I say get the Motorola Q. It's small, fairly inexpensive, has an amazing screen and is easy to use... though it is only WM5 and not WM6.
