    Greetings,

I am new to the WA forum. I joined to learn and I hope gain some advice about cell phone and network selection. I would like to drop my Verizon DSL service (the lowest speed option) and purchase a wireless phone plan and appropriate phone that I could use as modem for my laptop place of the DSL I live and work in the DC area, so if there are any new high speed networks that are limited to DC - that would be ok by me. I am ok with using the phone as a modem either with a cable or wirelessly.

I currently have Sony Ericsson Walkman w800i on T-Mobile and the contract is month-to-month now. I know it is old, but I have really enjoyed the versatility of my w800i phone, including voice recorder, mp3 player, FM radio, flashlight, calculator, calendar, sms, camera, video recorder, count down timer, alarm, stop watch, notepad, etc.

    Thoughts and suggestions?

I live in the DC area, and I have AT&T service. I often use my HTC Tilt as an internet connection for my laptop, and have used it on desktops when my DSL was out as well. It runs about as fast as a low - to midgrade DSL line. You may also be interested in a USB aircard that will give you internet service in any computer you plug it into.

...or if you have a Symbian phone with wifi you can use this program that turns your phone into a wifi hotspot (and save $100 on buying a "mifi" card):

JoikuShop - Premium Software For Your Mobile

(See list of supported phone on the right hand side)

There is a program for that on Windows Mobile as well - I actually was a beta tester years ago. Its called WM WiFi Router. Out of the box you can use the internet connection over Bluetooth or USB for free.

Keep it simple. I think you would be happy with the iPhone 3G or 3GS on AT&T.

You can turn on tethering in under 5 seconds.

    Thousands of apps.

One time setup for tethering at EnableTethering.com - Home . You do not need to "Jailbreak" your phone or do anything risky.
