It's always the verizon users who tell you how bad the other guy's coverage is.

In Hartford, Cingular=ATT and is very good there and around the state, on average (meaning that all carriers have weak spots, averaging that out, Cingular is the best carrier in CT). GSM coverage has changed so much even in the last few months, so if your experience is older than that, who really don't know the lastest. Your question is about the Hartford area. We all can find weak spots for any carrier in CT, including Verizon.

I have a gait phone (covers TDMA/Analog/GSM). I've noticed that I am almost always in GSM these days, compared to even a few months ago. When it is not in GSM, it is in Cingular TDMA which mostly has to do with the way the gait phone works. My 720, will hold the GSM signal.

In CT, for GSM, Cingular(ATT) first, T-mobile is more spotty outside the major highways and metro areas, on average.

And I agree, GSM is the way to go...why not have the same cool phone for here and internationally.

I would never push Verizon on anyone. As far as GSM goes, if you are going to travel, or you work for a company that requires travel overseas, then it is the way to go. I plan on doing neither. I am in law school so I won't be going anywhere for at least 2 1/2 years, which is 6 months longer than my current Verizon contract. I would also never push CDMA because I am not an expert when it comes to TDMA vs. CDMA vs. GSM. I just like what works for me, and right now that is Verizon. By the time I am done with school GSM will probably be the way to go. However, I live in NH so we can be a little slow when it comes to progress.

I still don't understand why you are limiting yourself to T-Mobile and AT&T. Cingular is also a GSM carrier. They are not CDMA.

Good point. Check out Cingular's GSM. My mother in Mystic uses them and she says her coverage is good, especially when she is on 95N or 395N.

    ALAS your Question is ANSWERED:
HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- To meet the increased demand for quality wireless service in Connecticut, Cingular Wireless today announced the addition of four new cell sites in the Hartford area. These sites not only enhance existing signal strength for clearer, higher-quality calls, they also extend Cingular's coverage area giving customers more consistent access to the Cingular network throughout the greater Hartford area.
Cingular Wireless has added four GSM cell sites to enhance coverage in and around Hartford, Simsbury, Avon and Canton, and the heavily traveled routes in the area. A site in downtown Hartford and another on an existing structure along Albany Avenue offer improved coverage along Route 44 near the West Hartford and Avon line, and sites in Simsbury and Canton enhance coverage along routes 179, 202 and 309.

"We know that our customers' number-one priority is being able to make a call when they want and where they want," said Mark Collins, vice president and general manager of Cingular Wireless in New England, "That's why Cingular is committed to making our great network even better - not just in Connecticut, but across the country."

Cingular Wireless is expected to invest $35 million dollars in its Connecticut network in 2004. In addition to the four sites already deployed in the Hartford area, Cingular expects to add approximately 23 new cell sites to the Connecticut network by the end of the summer and up to 47 new sites by the end of the year, nearly doubling last year's expansion. The cell sites offer enhanced service along central corridors, including I-95, Route 15, I-91 and I-84, as well as the areas around Route 2 and Route 44. Customers also will find enhanced in-building coverage at the two Connecticut casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.
