    A Handheld Cellphone Jammer

A Hong Kong based company, Brando has been found to be selling a hand-held cellphone jammer which could block GSM phones within a 10 meter zone from the user. The company says that it can ship the device worldwide, and warns users to notify people if the jammer is being used in a public place, subtly ignoring the fact that it would be illegal in most countries. The device would block all four GSM frequencies, 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz.

    Portable Palm Phone Jammer
The company says that it "deliver joys to worldwide" - although the person who suddenly cannot make a phone call may disagree with that sentiment.

Nonetheless, being small enough to fit inside a coat would make it a tempting purchase for people who travel on public transport and are tired of people who shout into their mobile phones. If only they could make a version which jams personal MP3 players until the user turns their headphone volume down.

Just like the BDA's people install, they, the end user are the ones ultimately responsible for the FCC violation of either device.

Yeah sometimes it would be a joy to have something like this I would never take the risk of being caught.

I can see all kinds of misuse, from pranks by thoughtless kids to the intentional prevention of 911 calls in an emergency. The feds should get on top of this situation, not to mention the many other off shore firms exporting these to the USA. The fine to import should be substantial. A few years ago we had nuts using hand held aviation transceivers to misdirect air traffic

Given the horrors that could occur, forget fines, jail anyone using one of these.

I agree 100% with you on this & i was on the fence about posting this here, unfortunately it doesn't seem to matter since it's all over the net by the link provided and maybe some of us here would be able to see one & report the use of it to the authorities vs someone from here buying one to use it for the wrong reasons.

I do hope the Fed is all over this & stop's it fast because the last thing I would want to worry about is not being able to make calls during an emergency especially if it's a bombing site where a secondary device is planted & during investigations the phone is better then a radio to talk.

Maybe with all the publicity it will cause the company to be shut down & all units returned.

There's no law saying they have to be respectful, but there's no law saying you have to be respectful either.

If someone tailgates you and happen to go the same place you go, well, walk 3 inches behind the person and say "well you thought you can tailgate me in your car, so I thought I can tailgate you.

Jammer is a coward's way of dealing with problems. If you're a business owner, make it clear to them cell phone isn't permitted. If one particular group becomes habitual offender, trespass them.

I was hoping that the forum moderators would take this thread down, not just close it. My reason is that it points to an article with a link as to where to buy an illegal jamming device that could be not only a public nuisance but a public danger during emergencies. Think hard folks what a criminal could do with the aid of this or a similar gadget!!! Why help some ill intentioned person find illegal items?

Jerro, this thread only contains articles discussing the product, not places where to get it. It's not illegal to discuss our opinions of it.

I did not mention it being illegal to discuss . As to the thread containing the information, I said the article (mentioned in the op and others) pointed to a link. Check out all the posts and links it refers to, click the links. Its there.

Jerro, I understand where your coming about this article & the link as you know. I had discussed this with other fellow Mods & it was decided to let it stay since the information was readily available by just doing a google search & there are other articles on it. I could remove the link to the original article if that would help with your concerns.

Jerro a person who wish 2 to terrorise others can do it just fine with out help. Information on anx thing should not be blocked out of fear some one might ure it 2 do harm. For the radical mind dose not need help. So why live in fear of what might happen. I dont

Thanks, I know you understand my concerns, and I appreciate that. There were 2 links in separate posts. I also agree with others here that it OK to discuss things. One person mentioned that people can Google things, of course that is true , that assumes that they know what they are looking for at the outset. My primary objection here, were the links in the article not to the posts. And that the article subsequently linked to the provider of the product. Thereby stimulating thought in someone who may have not otherwise considered this type of item before, young kids for instance.

I am not going to comment any more here so as not to perpetuate the issue. Feel free to PM if you wish. Thanks again.
