Comment Wireless just recieved on Dec 2 from the FCC the Cellular A license that Sussex Cellular use to hold until they canceled it this summer.

I don't have a press release, but it is in the FCC database under Chama Wireless, LLC

It looks like they got this under cellular phase 2 and they will probably just build a GSM network for roaming only (no customers) since VZW has a decent CDMA network there.

Yep....I would've preferred Dobson or Cingular to get it. We need GSM 850 up there.

    Commnet is a GSM carrier.
VZW does Not need them, they have good coverage in this area.

Where else does Commnet have service? I've never heard of them.

Commnet does analog, TDMA, GSM, CDMA Since Verizon has the market covered with CDMA and the CDMA providers will roam on VZW my guess will be Commnet will just do GSM. Don't know if they will have to setup analog as well? So better GSM coverage will be comming.

    That's definitely Commnet! :lmao:

I had a weird feeling that Commnet would come out of the woodwork on this one...Cingular already has 1900 (although not that good) there, and the area doesn't fit well with Dobson's footprint. I bet Commnet keeps some AMPS around and builds out GSM to get some traffic from Cingular and so on; VZW has the overwhelming majority of the market there and very good coverage to boot, so building out CDMA doesn't make any good sense.

I wonder if Commnet will backhaul sites to Yuma and Castle Rock or if they will build a new switch closer by...perhaps in Newton, in the space Sussex vacated. :D

Wow. I expected Cingular to go for this area as well, but from reading Commnet's site it appears GSM customers will get to roam in this area & hopefully they will start switching out Analog for GSM soon. I guess they can't get rid of all the Analog coverage though till 08 and don't want to get the small amt of customers up there upset with there lack of coverage. :p

Those maps are old they have more GSM roaming coverage and alot of CDMA coverage now. Out in west the calls go VZW's affilate Lyrix Wireless for switching. :loony:
