By the sounds of it, Samsung is doing much better in the GSM market then in the past, I do know they are looking to take the #2 spot of cell phone manufactures from Motorola & with Cingular pushing more Samsung's vs Moto's I can see this happening real soon. Also LG seems to be getting better so it's getting to be a tighter race. I think another factor is as carriers keep adding towers, Rf naturally improves, especially in the populated States/area's.
Exactly, as this improves we will end up having to make the choice as to what suites our tast bud and requirements. My thought is that both CDMA and GSM as we go along are going to be nothing but a mater of preference and ulitimatly some how we might end up with a single unified system out there that only diferes based on the band that is being used. I can tell that in certain countries they prefer Nokias and that is becae they can do the BT SMS chat and others prefer Moto because of the style, then you have others that like Smasungs and LGs and none of them complain about teh voic quality as their netwrok is fully built up. What they all have on us is the landscape, we have a vast one while they are limited to what compares to s state in the USA. We can not also forget that in many dthey do not have the hurdles that we have here in placing towers in places as needed. In my opnion, if the towers were allowed every where we migh have seen perfect coverage every where. So for GSM the next future fase will be (my own thought and I could very well be wrong) Quad band UMTS phones and with none of the regular quad ones that we now know. In a few years it would not be who's network is better but it would be which provider gives us the best options and our best bang for the buck. Just like it happens now in many other countries.
I agree with hf1khal, and I think our responses in this thread prove this. Nobody questions that Nokia and Motorola are quality brands, but that doesn't mean that the other manufacturers can't make a phone every bit as good. For anyone looking at a new provider and its lineup of phones, here's the strategy I would recommend: Check out the features and ratings for each of the phones you are interested in on PhoneScoop and narrow down your possible choices to 2 or 3. Then come back here and ask, in the relevant forum, for evaluations by people who own these particular phones. If you give people here a limited number phones to compare, you will probably get pretty good advice. SW
so Samsung was generally bad in the past but now they are getting better in the GSM field..........i bought my mom a Samsung x495 and it really sucked in the RF field.........but i have heard that the Blackjack gets excelletn RF.........better than some Nokias and Motos..........same with the Crackberries
I have had one Samsung. The RF was terrible. Their tech support said it would take about 3 weeks to fix and return. I FedEx the phone and they notified me that they had received it 3 weeks after they had signed for it. It took another 4 weeks before they mailed it back to me with a note stating nothing was wrong. I could stand beside my sons Nokia 6010 and he would have full bars and I would have 2 and terrible quality. No more Samsungs for me.
As do I. I also like your strategy on how to look for a phone. I got my Blackjack based on the features, and reviews and most definitely not the manufacturer. If I wanted to get a Nokia or a Motorola with the same features, performance & Rf, I would still be waiting. In my opinion people who say I had a "crappy" Samsung (or Lg, or whatever) so I will never get another one. are short changing themselves, and missing out on technology and some great devices .
That's a good point; all manufacturers are capable of producing a bad handset from time to time, however, that doesn't mean to say the manufacturer as a whole is bad. I am very much a SE fan, but that doesn't mean to say I won't appreciate a good handset from another manufacturer. I tend to choose a handset based upon features, RF isn't really an issue for me. Aesthetics are of course an issue, but for me they would take second place to features.
You are braver than I am Charlyee. I once decided to deviate from my Motorola comfort zone for some enticing technology and ended up with a phone that would only work reliably if you were standing within 200 yards of the tower. Those of you who have been around for a while know I am speaking of my former LG CU320 that was so bad I boxed it back up and took it back to the store after about 26 hours. It will be a very long time, if ev before I buy another LG. -Jay
I already knew that Jay.....:lmao: . Yes I remember your LG CU320 ordeal and you may remember I returned my Siemens SX66 in 22 hours and my 8515 in 26 hours. The point I was trying to make is that it is not going to stop me from trying out another Siemens or an HTC device if it meets my requirements. I did stay away from the 8525 because it was too similar to the 8125, but not because it is an HTC device. Makes sense Jay?
Yeah, it does make some sort of sense, but I have been really soured on LG, and my loyalty to Motorola is even stronger since then. -Jay
I say i am loyal to Moto too. But as of today I can say there are things that are equal and that might be even better. It is like one might encounter and miss one good thing when one just says never. I will give you LG as an example, they used to be my client when I worked at a bank, well I knew about all there products and thought they were not so good compared to the rest. Recently things have changed as they want to up the Ante with the consumer market and they needed to do better. Cell phones are now being paid attention to, consumer electronics are now better and also being paid attention to. I never thought I would buy an expensive LG product but just over a month ago I purchased their Plazma unit and based on my own comparisons it won over the ones that were a lot more expensive than LG, plus it had a 2 year warantee (friends seeing what I got ended up agreeing and now are going for L/G rather than Pioneer). I know this was out of conrtext but it is a point that LG is doing more to be better and today might be the best time to buy their products before they get too comfortable like Moto has done.
Jay, you are talking about brand loyality and I fully understand. Think about it though, even you, a loyal Motorola fan did try the LG and not pre-determined that ALL LG's are bad. So you and I are not that far off in our thinking. Although I still maintain that by shunning LGs based on one experience, you might be missing out. On a related subject one of our WA friends had 2 bad 6682s, 1 bad 6230, and then decided to get an unbranded 6131, which turned out to be bad.....Hmm talk about brand loyalty. Well he is either that, or a glutton for punishment, or completely crazy. I vote for completely crazy, how about you...... Thank you scotsboyuk, my sentiments exactly.
Yeah, but when we were looking at phones for my Mom she initially looked at an LG, only because it was free. I looked around and got her a Motorola L2 free. She absolutely loves it, and is glad she didn't get the LG. I even did a few minor mods to it for her. -Jay
I had a Samsung a couple of years ago & I also had a bad experience with it, and had been shell shocked of them. But from what I have been hearing lately here & at other places, I would give them another change. Heck I was a big time Nokia fan, and broke that to become a Moto Fan, so anything is possible.
