Any info. appreciated. I am living in an earth shelter that I built 30 years ago and it is
time to communicate with the rest of the world! In the house our cellular reception is poor to zero (even under the sky lights). We use Alltel and I am wanting to purchase a antenna/repeater. We have a strong signal out doors, have 2,600 square feet living space, want to be able to use 2 cell phones and go wireless with the computer. My understanding is Alltel locally will be going Verizon who uses a different frquency. Do I need to waite for Verizon and any suggestions on what equipment I should look for? Not Dumb....just too old to figure it all out.
    Thanks Tribeca

You can get the repeater now since the frequencies will not change in your area by Verizon taking over, they use the same ones. It almost sounds like they are using 1900 Mhz CDMA in your area since you have excellent coverage outside but nothing or little inside.

Do you have high-speed Internet access where you live? If so, once the switch to Verizon takes place, this is what you want (link below) it will give you all kinds of service in your home with any Verizon cell phone (even deep underground) ...and perhaps even with Alltel phones? (not sure on that one, but definitely the Verizon phones)...

He stated that Verizon uses a different frequency. Is it possible that Verizon uses 850 in his area and Alltel 1900? In that case the Verizon switch might take care of his issue on its own, since 850 has better building pentration.

I'm not sure how likely that is. I'd think that they'd have at least update the PRL for both Verizon and Alltel customers by now so that all can take advantage of the combined network. Perhaps the OP should try a PRL update to see if he can access the native Verizon network (assuming on exists) in his house. Most/All CDMA phones in the U.S. are capable of using both frequencies.
