Your welcome, Andy. It sounds like a good deal to me. If I were you, I would get Comcast from them, since you would be saving more money. I don't know about Netlink. I have Linksys, but I think they should all be good. I would go to www.cnet.com and read up some reviews just to be on the safe side. Or go to Circuit City's website and read reviews if they sell the model that you are looking for.
Comcast has some areas of Los Angeles, but they're trading them all to Time Warner as part of the Adelphia buyout. Time Warner will be the provider for all of the City of Los Angeles, except for a very small part of Santa Monica and a very small part of the Harbor area (Cox). My choices for high-speed are Adelphia cable modem or DirectWay, which is the crappy, slow, often-breaking satellite broadband that costs like $60 a month for 384Kbps service. I have cable TV -- since our only real choice for broadband is cable, we might as well have digital cable and get the discount.
Interesting. When is the buyout supposed to be complete? My friend's dad has a condo about a mile from the beach. Since his dad bought it mainly as an investment, my friend lives there during the school year. He has DirecTV, phone service, and DirectWay for the internet (all in a package deal). He gets like 200 some channels and all of the movie channels. The area that he lives in has a deal with a local communications company. He said that he wishes that he doesn't have to have satellite (he wants digital cable instead of satellite and Comcast cable (HS) instead of DirectWay since it is much faster).
I think we're looking at a nine-to-twelve month "official" changeover... it has to be approved by the various local governments before it can happen.
I'm paying $42.00 a month and my speeds with others logged on & my VoIP are average 2400 download & 355 Upload, I haven't tried it in a while with no one else logged in and don't know if the VoIP gateway would effect any speeds, but I do know this if you have VoIP & download Bit torrents, then your phone calls can get delayed or echo'd.
Have you guys read this? http://money.cnn.com/2005/10/14/technology/yahoo_aol/index.htm http://money.cnn.com/2005/10/13/news/fortune500/aol/index.htm Looks like Comcast is out to play with the big boys.
Yeah, Shoresguy, I've seen it today on the internet as well. Interesting indeed I just called Comcast and was all set after just 3 minutes, $19.99 for 12 months; I'm going to pick up my starter pack tomorrow morning at their office before going to work, then I can cancel my DSL
Here we have the choice of comcast or verizon dsl. Neither are worth a crap. The county I live in is kinda segregated when it comes to nieghboring markets. Everybody wants to keep any and all competition out of our market because it is their most profitable on this side of the state. This goes for isp's and cellular providers too. All our services are more expensive, and we get less because..what choice do we have? As for comcast 6mb broadband internet and verizons 1.5mb dsl internet. Tethering my MM-7400 is faster more consistantly, than either. Wierd but thats how it works.
Jrip, what city are you near to in west Michigan? Grand Rapids? Because if my speeds weren't what they were supposed to be, I would call up my provider and complain to them and have them look into it.
Sorry for dragging up this old thread, but I might be switching to Sprint DSL. I should be getting the modem today. A couple of co-workers got me hooked on Bittorrent. And with our local cable company they set limits on what you can transfer per month (down/up load), 6GB, 10GB, 20GB depending on the package you have. Hopefully the DSL will work as my connection will be much faster (3Mbps), and their is no limits on how much you can transfer. It will be wierd not to have TV, but I don't watch it any way. I am working when the shows I like are on.
At least that way you surf better that way. I don't watch my counter on a daily basis but my DSL bill for the last month showed 35 GB transferred. My ISP lists it even though I have unlimited DSL.
I will have to check my family's bill the next time we receive it. I am not sure it is shows how much data is transferred or not since we have unlimited high-speed cable.
Haha, sorry for answering that late I work at a local Day Spa and Salon. I'm an advisor there. It's a good job that works great with my schedule/the time I have.
An update on my situation: We did indeed switch to Comcast cable and the speed difference coming from DSL is just incredible! $19.99 a month for 12 months. Good-bye Qwest DSL. Also, we paid Qwest $28.49 plus tax for local service. We switched back to U.S. Tel and got the same for $21.45. Not bad So, Good bye Qwest!
I make appointments/ show people around, make phone calls, show people back and direct the spa area. Like I said, they work around my busy life schedule with school and everything, so I'm happy!
Don't make fun of me... My friends are all jealous about my easy job with nice girls and good pay. I just make sure that everything goes over flawlessly, which includes making appointments, like I said, making sure people do what they're supposed to, showing clients around, and having fun. It's really a fun job, I'm glad I had a connection to get in easily.
That's the important thing about any job, if you don't like it or if you're not having fun, then you should change jobs. I'm sure that some Americans visiting Germany are probably surprised to find places like Beate Uhse (established German sex shop chain) or independently owned sex shops operating in most German cities/towns. Beate Uhse even opened some airport locations last year including one at the Cologne/Bonn Airport. Viel Spaß bei deinem Job,
