I hope I don't get into too much trouble, I'm sure JFB will understand. PhoneScoop put up an article a few days ago about an interview with Sprint. One of the more intriguing items was a graphic snapshot of Sprint's roadmap through Q1 2014. What is interesting even to non-Sprint users is that you can pretty much count on these technologies coming to all major carriers around the same time. Color E-Ink: Benefits: Can be read in direct sunlight. Battery lasts one month! Supposedly coming out this year! Flexible Screens: Sprint's "roadmap" shows a scroll-like device coming out next year. Tactile screen: This is a technology I hadn't heard of until I read the article. Amazing! I link to a few videos in the blog article I wrote. Color me skeptical of the color eInk. The Ectaco jetBook reviews indicate the color rendition is very poor and the screen is very slow (it's a problem with all eInk, but apparently color makes it worse). I love my eInk reader, but I'd hate to have that slow a response on the phone screen.
There are many rumors and expectations about these technologies. When it comes to color E-link, I read that E Ink Holdings has received an order of 3 million displays shipping every month, from Amazon for 6-inch color E Ink displays. I am not sure about the news, but I read it long back in an article. Regarding the Tactile screen, the tactus technology is something very interesting. I think, the first devices incorporating the dynamic touch screen technology is anticipated to be released in 2013.
