i know there is a certain sequence of buttons you press on various phones to find out what cell tower you are hitting. can someone help me out find these codes and or where i can find them.
What you're talking about is called Engineering Mode. Most (but not all) phones have this as a hidden feature. How it is accessed varies widely between manufacturers and phone models. If you were to post your phone's make/model/carrier someone may be able to produce an answer for you.
ok i wasnt sure what it was called. can you point me to a website or somewhere i can look to find a wide range of these codes for as many phones as possible?
They're scattered all over the place. If you read through our manufacturer forums, we have a lot of them here, but without knowing what make & model phone you have it is impossible to even begin to point you anywhere.
I don't know if this works on all models of the iPhone, but I did find this. Code: enter *3001#12345#* and tap the Call button.
How the information is displayed varies from phone to phone. I am only really familiar with how Motorola does it on their triplets series phones. I have no idea how Apple presents the information. Even at that, the phone only tells you what control channel it sees, not where that tower is. You have to be really knowledgeable on your local network, and spend a lot of time reading signal strengths at the base of each tower to determine what channels are in use at which towers. Once you know which channels are in use at your local towers you can then tell what tower you're using.
ok thanks! ive used it with my old nextel and it actually gives you the gps coordinates for the tower
Here's a list of engineering mode codes: http://radioraiders.com/FieldTestModes.pdf If you have a BlackBerry, you can download directly on your BB browser: cellumap.com/ota ...that will display all the cellular info as well...
In general, Sprint/Nextel towers will report their GPS coordinates. VZW's usually won't. I don't ever get GPS coords on T-Mobile or AT&T, but I'm not sure if its them, or if there is no provision for providing that data, or even if its the software I'm using.
Hello, I was wondering if anybody knew the code for the sprint LG Rumor 2? Also this doesn't cost money does it? Thanks.
