WEST U.S. -- Clearwire to deploy LTE in Phoenix this fall

    Not exactly new news since Clearwire announced this about a month ago, but this is the first time it is hitting the main news outlets in town.

    I wonder how many pissed off EVO and Epic owners there will be today when they read this:

    Clear to test LTE in Phoenix.

    No word on when, if ever, WiMAX will be deployed here.

    I'm stunned to see Clearwire going for a swim in the LTE pool, considering how much $ they threw into WiMAX (the competing 4G standard to LTE). But I guess if Clearwire is testing LTE, that means one of 2 things, either 1) WiMAX is dead and Clearwire plans to do a full swap over to LTE, or 2) Clearwire is going to run LTE and WiMAX side-by-side (which really doesn't make much sense to run dual 4G networks). Or then 3) they are going to stick with WiMAX, but just want to test compatibility with WiMAX<>LTE.
