I don't think its used in any official capacity, but the Cingular websitre reidrects you to at&t's wireless site, and it lists as "Formerly Cingular" -Jay
yep. also you will find that many phones are still registering "cingular" as well as if you ping any towers they are labeled cingular still to phones general...and ive even seen a few towers local to me still labeled "cellular one"
Wirelessly posted (Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) I still use www.cingular.com to access my OLAM & mynumber@mms.mycingular.com for E-Mailing pictures.
That redirects to AT&T. I can understand why AT&T would keep that web address for prior CIngular users.
lol oh crap i didnt realize that lol...well i mean it makes sense...they own the rights to all those domain names...no point in not using them...espically when you absolutely do not want it to run out and someone else take it anytime soon...that would be to easy for all the internet scammers to do their thing
The web pages are right but if you look at some of the URLs you will see Cingular. I was told it was costly to change so they were leaving it alone for awhile.
The Cingular name is going away basically what happened is SBC bought both Bellsouth and Cingular, But Kept the At&t name becasue it is the most well known. The Offical name is At&t Mobility. (It is not At&t Wireless) FYI I just started working for them as a Sales Rep in January. So I got the report from the company themselves.
I got to sit in on a 4 hour death by power point meeting where alot of the same was put out. They still have along way to go. Speaking of Cingular URL look at the job openings for wireless on ATT.com the last time I looked it still used a Cingular site. Heres a example of alot of different names in the same spot. I was troubleshoot a T1 (backhaul to tower) In the phones room I saw circuits and phones lines labeled as Ameritech, SBC, ATT and even some Bell System references.
it took SBC years to relabel Ameritech, alot of the Ameritech trucks in my area went from Ameritech label straight to ATT and never saw SBC stickers.
some mergers happen fast...some dont...the rebranding is no different. for instance here, Bellsouth was Relabeled AT&T within 6 months of the Merger, it went off without a hitch as they already had close associations as both companies had been in the south for years and years and the AT&T name carries alot of weight and recognition. I have a feeling however that the Dobson transition will take over a year before it is fully completed with rebranding and badging.
