Are you asking will it work if you are in SI roaming? Yes it will. Are you asking if you can sign up in SI? Yes you can.
Cingular is avalible in Staten Island. I work at the S.I. Mall and they have a Cingular booth on the Macy's wing sellig Cingular GSM service. Cingular is sharing Voicestreams network and VS has pretty good service in SI.
When i had Voicestream i had no problems. What phone are you using? I found that the Nokia 3390 had the best reception.
Not true. I have Verizon on S.I. and it works in every building I go into. Including large buildings like the maill or court houses.
So IlKevinlI, you are telling me that the tower is miles away? The towers is either close or they have a special antenna within the building for CDMA/TDMA. They do not make one for GSM that I am aware of yet.
Im not sure where the tower is, however the SI mall and the court houses are on opposite sides of the island.
It is not a matter of ability ("can or can't"). Its a matter of the way the carrier wants to offer its services and construct its plan packages.
