Wow, you asked 50 people? I guess you have to go with what works in the areas you need it. In NC, Verizon and Alltel will usually give you the most coverage as they roam on each other's networks. VZW covers a good portion of the central and western parts of the state while Alltel covers central and eastern NC pretty well. US Cellular is also used as a roaming partner with Verizon.

If you spend much time east of Raleigh you might consider Alltel. Otherwise VZW should be fine.

As long as you can make calls at your house, office, and places you frequent in town and elsewhere, I would definitely Verizon, personally. My dad had Alltel for over two years, and they just plain aren't as good of a provider, IMO. They nickel and dime you to death for stuff that comes standard with Verizon plans. Also, Verizon has better customer service, IMO. You'll also find a better line-up with phones on Verizon. Also, and this is just a detail, and I'm a self-professed nit picker, but Alltel doesn't have enhanced roaming indicators. ERIs are the banners on your phone that say "Verizon Wireless" or "Extended Network." I like them much more over Alltel's flashing triangle if you're roaming. I spend a lot of time outside of my area code's network, but still on Verizon's network. I'd have a flashing triangle the whole time with Alltel, but it says "Verizon Wireless" for me wherever I go on Verizon's network. This is just a plus for me. Take it for what you will.

It has been said that Cingular will surpass Verizon after they acquire AT&T Wireless. :D :D

Re: Cingular Wireless Commits to Massive $50 Million Expansion of its South Carolina

I'm not sure if there is a bit of confusion here or not, so....PR Newswire is not responsible for the content or the timing of the press releases by any company that uses them. Each company decides what goes in the release and when it goes out - PR Newswire is just the vehicle. There are other companies as well, BuisnessWire is another popular one (and is used by TM FWIW).

I wonder how Cingular's 10-Q report for the end of 2004 will look like.
It will say: "We gained over 22 million customers in this quarter!" ;)

I wonder if there has ever been another wireless carrier that has gained over 22 million customers in one quarter :browani:

Actually, it doesn't really matter, since VZW uses Alltel's network ("Extended Network") east and north of the Triangle, but gives M2M on Alltel most of the time (they give it for in-market roaming in the Greensboro market!).

I agree with scottb on his assessment of Cingular coverage in the Triad - it sucks and Cingular refuses to put money into this region. I have watched coverage get worse since the days of BellSouth Mobility DCS until the time that I couldn't stand it anymore and just bided my time until LNP came into effect.
