Hi everybody I think I may be over researching a little here. Or maybe just in the wrong spots and I'm getting pretty confused. Me and my girlfriend have T-Mobile now in Philly. I have adequate enough reception, but my grilfriend has horrible reception where she lives on the other side of the city. She wants to change carriers and I have no choice, because I don't have a land line and we use the free mobile to mobile minutes to great extent. She wanted Cingular but I want a Nokia 6620, which I believe is only available on ATT, and I was looking at the ATT GSM national plans. But after researching online I have found nothing but complaints about ATT (which I expected because most people just use the internet to complain, but the people here seemed to give well thought out and intelligent answers so I thought I'd ask you guys for help ) I've heard about lousy customer service, problems with billing and many other unintelligible things. I'm tempted to try them for the free 30 day trial and was wondering what you guys thought. And also if I should buy the phone and plan through their site or through a store/kiosk. Thank you in advance for any and all input.
With the merger coming through, I think going with Cingular would be the best option. you can always buy a 6620 somewhere else like on Ebay and use it on Cingular if they don't sell it.
Coverage is going to be the same with either with the slight edge going to AT&T. Both roam off each other's networks in the Philly area, but Cingular does not roam onto AT&T in center city Philly, however AT&T will roam onto Cingular in just about all locations. Like bobolito said though with the merger coming to a close soon, in the long run it doesn't matter who you go with; they will be the same company shortly.
Like either one else said, it doesn't really matter, why don't you try them out both? AT&T's CS isn't bad, i've always been helped and these people are very polite.
I have Cingular and am in Philadelphia. I have a GAIT phone. Reception is fine everywhere I have tried. The only issue I have with them is some billing delays, and customer service has not been able to provide me with a solid answer as to why it is happening. The last time, someone told me it was because of my plan (really an old Nation plan, but with added GSM). I was told that GSM was only added to make my phone work with their changing network. They claim some of my calls were actually roaming, which could account for the delay. In any case, I think you will be fine on either. ATT's plans may be a little cheaper right now, but rollover is only with Cingular. I believe ATT wants a 2 yr contract for free mobile to mobile, but Cingular will do it on a 1 year agreement.
