Okay, I'm really new at this, but if there's a bunch of numbers for your area, how do you know which one is yours? I'm in the Atlanta Area with a 404 number....
I don't know about everyone, but I know that on my phone...when I dial my own number to check my v-mail....the screen shows the actual VM number being dialed.
I tried that and my phone just says, "not available." It's a new phone I bought online and put my SIM card in it. I didn't have vmail set up on my old phone at all, but I had the number for my school vmail programmed so I could get my messages at home. The new phone has picked up that number(the school one) as the default number and I can't figure out how to re program the right number...
call 1800 331 0500 from a land line ... have your phone in hand...tell the rep and they will tell you the VM retrieval number for your area...
It appears your line is not programmed for Voicemail. You'll just have to call Customer Service. Try *#62# or *#67# to see if you get something. Here's what they do: *#61# - Returns the phone number your incoming calls are forwarded to when you don't answer the phone. *#62# - Returns the phone number your incoming calls are forwarded to when your phone has no service or it is powered off. *#67# - Returns the phone number your incoming calls are forwarded to when you are already on the phone and press the "Ignore" or "Reject" button.
when you figure out what your local voicemail number is just go to messages > press menu key > scroll down to voicemail setup > select > choose change to edit your number > press ok
I called my old Blue prepaid number, 850-566-4729, and I got the Voicemail system. I dont know whether the system differentiates between Blue and Orange though
it does... orange and blue are completely different blue VM on a gsm service dont bill airtime... it shows as an event ( free )
I double checked mine and it is 213-300-1055, which is slightly different than the one Tony E provided, but both work fine for accessing VM in the Los Angeles area.
If you need Vm pilot #'s why not just call customer service? Easiest way to do it with Cingular is dial your own # and press * when your greeting comes on. Might have to enter a password, which by default is your 7 digit phone #. That way VM calls are billed as M2M
Unfortunately, not in all markets — Bay Area, CA bills all VM calls made from the phone regardless of whether you call the retrieval number or your own number.
Same here in L.A. Also, I noticed when I checked the detailed billing on My Cingular that when I called my own number for VM, it forwards to my VM access number automatically, so I get billed for it no matter how I call VM.
Man, that blows donkey chunks. I have an Employee Rate Plan so I don't get the benefit of having calls billed as m2m. I've just heard customers talk about how they change their pilot # to their own and just retrieve it that way.
Yep, it sucks, but it's the price you pay with the big carriers. Doesn't bother me, though. As long as I have service, I'm fine.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 es70) I have a Philadelphia number within the 267 area code. The VM Retrieval number is 267-337-1539 for my blue account.
These will not always be the same (hopefully in most cases it won't matter). For instance, my VM retrieval (backdoor) number is 408-307-5085 while my *#61# number is 408-307-5075.
I guess here in CA they have too many numbers to go around — my *#62# redirect is different yet: 408-307-5045
as published by Cingular since january... bill inserts and test message blasts... effective may bill cycle VM accees from the wirless device is billable airtime last fall cingular noticed that some markets across the country had free vm access from the wireless phone... its supposed to be billable airtime as described in the terms of service ***regardless of the time of day or night*** so in fairness they informed all customers (prepaid and postpaid) of this change (actually a billing correction) and life goes on... I have answered this question on average 10-15 times a day since march.. I could recite the affected markets but its a moot point really the may bill cycle is now over and the correction is now system wide
I guess they only sent this info to Orange customers, I never got anything from them, or been billed for VM calls. I believe Verizon does this & not sure who else does it.
Well, I am an Orange customer and never got anythng from them. My bill should be available in a couple of days and I will check to see if they charge me for VM. Verizon does charge airtime for VM, is that what you are saying? To the best of my knowledge so does Sprint and USCC. However, USCC still allows you to dial your own number to pick up VM, and that with a M2M package is ofcourse free.
Interesting on you not getting anything from AT&T/Cingular on this including the SMS they sent out. Yes I was trying to say that Verizon does charge for VM calls. For now my line I call my own # for VM's & it's setup that way on my phone, the 3 other lines are using the VM system & they are all coming up as Mobile to Mobile calls during the day.
