Thanks. That's so odd the only Delaware # is for my area, 302423....I have a 423 number myself. I'd think there'd be one for each county at least. How does the VM work? I understood how it worked on CDMA, it was one's own # lol! I like how Verizon decided that wasn't mobile2mobile though....
You can always dial your own number with Cingular. The way it works is that since any call that comes in eventually gets forwarded to voicemail, when you dial your own number from your own phone, it will forward you to the voicemail center directly, since you are making an outgoing call from the same phone. Basically, it works the same way for CDMA, GSM, TDMA, etc. but with GSM, there are some additional features that you can't do on CDMA/TDMA. By the way, it would be a waste of resources to have one number per county. Cell phone calls are free over a large regional area anyways, so having a VM center number with a different area code is not going to cost you any more. Why do you like how Verizon decided that VM wasn't M2M? Do you like your anytime minutes to run out quicker?
My phone is programmed to dial the Knoxville, TN Voicemail center number. One thing I like about Cingular in my area is I can check my phone by not dialing by number from any other line. I have a 423-367-xxxx number. Ok well if I want to check my voicemail or just send a message to another Cingular subscriber here and not have their phone ring I can just dial 423-367-8989. You just dial your area code plus 3 prefix number and add 8989 here for any local Cingular number. I had a friend that had a 423-276 number with Cingular. He checked his number by dialing 423-276-8989. I use this feature to sometimes send Cingular subscribers in my local area a voicemail message without ringing their phone. Their has been a couple of times where its 2 am in the morning or so and I don't want to ring somebody's phone that late. I just dial my local access number though and leave them a VM through it without their phone ever ringing. Pretty cool if you ask me
I got a letter from Cingular yesterday that the VM would be changing this month. I live in South Carolina. I like it the way it is.
The number for the Orlando, FL area does not work. My nmber is 407-242-XXXX... Anyone have another number? **** I just tried 407-247-7627 and that worked... just an FYI
These numbers are for Centigram and Octel systems and are dated and will not work in the Southeast markets as everything but south florida has been transistioned to Lucent . Just fyi for anybody who may be trying to still use these . The Indy ,NYC and Philly numbers may still work since they were already on Lucent
I figured there were more than 1. My number is a 571 number with a 540 LRN but still goes to the 410 VM number in the Hancock MTSO.
anybody know the voicemail retrieval number for the norfolk/va beach virginia area? 757-692 npa-nxx, thanks in advance for any help!
So you have to call one of these numbers to get to your messages? That's crazy. I know i'm a newb by the way.
no... thats the voicemail retrieval number... thats the number your phone dials to get your messages... some people like to dial the server to avoid the airtime for checking voicemail... dial the server...then enter the phone number... prompted for the password and you are in... your phone does this automatically for you (up to the password part) but if done from the cel airtime charges are incurred (deducts from your minutes)...Cingular charges this way... former ATT did not
So you are saying if your phone calls the server vs your cell # to get your VM's it deducts from your Anytime mins? I think this is a regional thing, since we had this discussion and there are people that get charged M2M mins to check their VM's vs Anytime mins.
That's correct. It's regional. I can dial either my own number or the voicemail access number and I never use anytime minutes. It always uses M2M for me.
there is a lot more to it than that... if you are a TDMA customer (former ATT) your VM box access number is your cel number... if your rate plan has MTM and you check your VM ... its billed as a MtM call...if no MtM its airtime (peak or night & weekend as applicable) if you are a former ATT GSM customer... you VM box is a VM retrieval number and when you check your VM it is not billed airtime (look on your bill it shows as an EVENT) the definition of a former ATT or blue account is a service that is still using an ATT SIM if you are a cingular customer as far as I can determine you are billed airtime for checking your VM...
At least until they call Customer Care to complain that their calls are going straight to Voicemail and the phone isn't showing a missed call...issed:
Hopefully the people you would call like this, know you are doing this and it doesn't create this concern. Most of my friends know I am a Cell phone nut & wouldn't think about it, if I did this & they didn't show a missed call on their phone.
