Hey guys, I'm about to change my cell phone service. I'm narrowing it down to Cingular. I was wondering if anyone who participates in these forums, have Cingular in the Northern Virginia area. I've had the service before, and it was pretty good, but I've read a lot of reviews about the Samsung S307 not being a good phone when it comes to holding on calls or getting service. If you have some good information, please feel free to reply.
I can't say how Cingular is in that area. I however have heard some negative things about the SamSung S307. It's known to have some RF problems. If you sign up for Cingular Wireless I'd skip that particular model.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I want that phone. I guess I would have to ask around and see.
Cingular is great in the DC area. I live in Bethesda and use Cingular all over the Metro area. Where in NOVA are you? I think Cingular coverage in DC is great. I used Verizon for a long time here, and think Cingular coverage is just as good. They both are on the cell band rather than the PCS band, so the coverage is going to be pretty similar. Voice quality on Cingular however crushes Verizon. THe only complaint I have is that it doesn;t work on the Metro.
Do you know anyone with the Samsung S307 phone that's using Cingular? My main concern is that the phone is crap, but I really want the phone. Thanks.
Try the Samsung S427 it's RF reception is much better than the S307. It just dosen't have the external callerID
I've heard great things about the Samsung X427. Many people don't like though because it has no external screen on it.
I would stay far away from that Samsung. My friend switched to Cingular and got that phone and was sorry he switched do to the Samsung missing tons of calls and having them go straight to voice mail. It also dropped tons of calls and had no service where service is strong. Not to mention the call quality on the reciever's end was aweful. I told him to switch to the Motorola V400 and it has been smooth sailing ever since then. He is extremely happy with the phone and the GSM service here in South Florida.
stratfink is right about the mic on the s307. The one I had, had a terrible mic. The earpiece was horrible, the newer Motos are much louder. The s307 is good if you want to just make & recieve calls, but is to small for text messaging, wap, etc.. I would look at the x427, V400, V600, or the new Samsunf p107. A couple of HoFo members were able to get them at Best Buy.
Hmm...I really like the Samsung S307 phone. From what I've gathered in this thread, it seems like Cingular and the Samsung S307 phone works well in the Washington D.C. area. I'll give it a few more days before I decide...unless anyone have more horrific experience to share.
Um... How did you get that the SamSung S307 has been generally good. Look at the above quotes pretty much all of them are telling you to stay away from this phone. My friend in MA had one and he took it back because of poor RF and audio problems.
I just got an S307 and a Moto V400. I know everyone is talking about the V400 picking up better than the S307 but the S307 I have seems to have a better signal than my V400. However, the V400 is easier to navigate than the S307, but as to signal strength, the S307 seems to be better. I can't talk for anyone except my experience so far. Keep in mind that I have only had the phones for about a week. My only other problem with the S307 is that I can't seem to find any normal ring tones. If anyone can help me please do so b/c I can't stand to hear the sound of some stupid song when my phone rings. My overall rating on the S307 is good so far and the V400 is also a good phone.
Well, from everyone who applied to my thread, people that are in the Washington DC area says Cingular is good. Coverage is different in all areas, and there is a lot of factors that can reduce the wireless signal. There is also a whole bunch of mixed stories, so since I would like to remain optimistic, I'd say the phone and the service are both generally....good. :browani:
This isn't really on topic, but I was wondering if those that still owned their s307 were willing to sell it. I am in desperate search of a used one, and am not pleased with the quality of the phones on ebay. I am also an ATT customer, so it would be easier to buy a used Cingular phone. Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong spot. email - blondemilie@hotmail.com
I have a friend with the S307 and reception is great, however the audio quality is horrible. FWIW, our network (P.R./U.S.V.I.) uses Nortel gear. I know they all meet set standards, however I think a phone's performance is also determined by the network gear.
Samsung S307 Sorry to change the subject , I have a Samung s307, it's a tri-band. I need to change it from network 1900 to 1800. The problem is that the option is locked (light gray). Do somebody over here knows the code to unlock it? Thanks!! GATA
Re: Samsung S307 The Samsung S307 does not support the 1800 band. It probably uses generic Samsung firmware, so the option to change bands was probably disabled but not entirely removed. THat is my guess if there is actually an option to change the bands.
