    Cingular Wireless is tackling a particularly vexing problem for wireless users -- staying in touch while moving in and out of regions covered by distinct, often incompatible networks -- with a nationwide roaming service.

    The second-largest U.S. wireless carrier claimed an industry first in announcing the launch of inter-carrier roaming for GPRS (general packet radio services) high-speed data services.
