Hi there, I am currently using Verizon, but I want to change to Cingular. Because Verizon doesn't have the phones I like, I like sony w810i or Samsung Blackjack. How is their reception in Raleigh? I heard ppl complain Cingular drop calls often. I don't know any friends who is using Cingular. Is it true? Thanks Waiyi
waiyi; Cingular has a pretty decent network in Raleigh. Also they have launched their UMTS (3G) network there also so the Blackjack would work well there. Try it out they have a 30 day trial period.
I work in Durham, but travel to Raleigh many times for various reasons. I think Cingular works great, near blanket coverage in the triangle in my opinion. I don't think you'll be disappointed. But as always, take advantage of 30 day trials to be sure it works in the specific areas you need it.
I travel to Raleigh for business and I have great coverage in the whole area. In fact, everywhere I go in the state the coverage is good. I came over from Verizon too because I didn't like their phones. I can't tell that the dropped calls are any better or worse with Cingular. I know they advertise fewest dropped calls, but to me I get about the same amount as I did with Verizon. I will say that if you are going to be going any data you will be better off with Cingular. When you look at Verizon's coverage map what they don't show you is that it is actually a patchwork of various CDMA roaming partners and when you are on another network you can't always access data. Cingular doesn't have that issue because its roaming partners (Suncom, T Mobile) use the same technology for data. Hope this helps.
