Look how small Cingular's GSM map was(including roaming partners) in '04. Then compared to now, huge diff.!
That map was before AT&T had started to overlay GSM.(around jan '04) The only other National GSM provider at that time was T-Mobile/Voicestream, and Cingular & T-Mobile didn't have a roaming agreement at that time. So that was ALL of Cingular's GSM coverage they offered. They were still selling TDMA though, which would have roamed off of AT&T. About 3-6 months later, Cingular released this map, showing the new roaming agreement coverage from T-Mobile and AT&T Wireless they had just signed. AT&T had just started to overlay GSM on their TDMA Network. I really like this map because it shows what freq. you will be using depending on what area you are in. This is also around the time that T-Mobile & Cingular signed their CA/NV agreement allowing T-Mobile to sell service under the T-Mobile Brand name using the Cingular Network. And at that time Cingular's network was able to support both Providers Customers. Now a days, The network wouldn't be able to support both providers customers, thats for sure!
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Nokia6010/1.0 (8.62) Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0) I remember when T-Mobile was the only GSM in town... LOL. Then Blue acquired the US Cellular TDMA network in march 2004 and blue GSM arrived shortly there after in the Florida panhandle. Cingular orange's gsm died at the county line while blue worked in the boonies.

In a way they did and in a way they didn't. When you factor in the Unlimited M2M & N&W plus no roaming charges it slightly makes up for the rate changes, but you did loose a bunch of Anytime minutes for the prices on most plans.
HOW right were you! Cingular will now become AT&T Wireless again, Hprefully they will turn The Cingular Network into hoe the ond AT&T network once was........... and that is........... THE BEST NETWORK, And rule the Wireless industry in the US!!!!!!!!!!! "Guess Who's back, back again. AT&T Wireless is back, tell a friend..." Sorry I couldn't help it. But i Loved AT&T Wireless. They were the best i EVER had. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all the years that i had my service with ATTW it was the best service ever compared to others. If I ever called to complain they actualy followed up and in a day or two they called back to make sure that all is fine. This even happened durring their worst days. None of the other providers that I also had at the same time ever did that. I miss those days where some one made us feel important.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1558; en; U; ssr)) The network has improved in my area... But the pricing hasn't. I had the blue prepaid and their CS was condescending... So the cs could only improve. The phone selection has gotten better in my opinion. If they had a pick your plan monthly option that didn't require auto pay, i'd probably still be a Cingular prepaid customer.
They were condecending as the prepaid support was farmed out to third party customer service in countries out side the US. That was the start for them of loosing their valuable good customer service.
Are you sure about that? AFAIK T-Mobile had used Cingular network in CA/NV since they started selling here and it was definitely before 2004 that I started seeing T-Mobile phones.
I think it was around 2000 when they were roaming on each others netwrok Cingular in NY/LI on T Mobile and T mobile on Cingular in the CA/NV areas.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1558; en; U; ssr)) I noticed the accents and asked where the agent was located. The agent claimed that he was in the Northwest US and refused to disclose his location... that made me even more suspicious.
