I thought they were going to do this on the 18th, guess they wanted to get this red BB out before then.

I like the looks of this new BB Pearl, and the $199.99 price tag after the rebate is a good deal.

But I already have an AT&T branded phone... ;)

EDIT: Geez that zoom gets in really close! Maybe I should have dusted off the phone and desk before I took the pic.

The dust makes it look official. :p

The other day I was doing some cleaning & found 2 Ericsson R300LX TDMA cell phones that are still in decent condition.

They just say AT&T on them with the globe.

That's my 3G Motorola A845. I drive it most of the time right now, probably until I buy a V3xx.

Why did the old AT&T sell a 3G phone years before 3G GSM came to the US?

Because AT&T wireless was operating a 3G network in a few limited metro areas.

Yes, they were operating a small UMTS network. I think it was in only 5 cities. Cingular was upset at them for launching 3G because Cingular was buying them out, and Cingular wasn't ready to launch 3G yet.

Interesting, I didn't know Cingular was upset. Just to add — the service was launched with two phones available — the other being Nokia 6651. Of course, considering the 6651 didn't have 850MHz even on the GSM it failed to make any dent in the market :)

That's why I searched long and hard for an A845, because it has 850 too.

I think as soon as they could they stopped selling new 3G plans, then concentrated on their own 3G deployment. I don't remember exactly how they handled it now.
