Cingular Gets Cell Upgrade in Amarillo, Texas Source: Amarillo Globe-News Publication date: 2004-08-12 Aug. 12--Cingular Wireless service in Amarillo has undergone an upgrade. The Dallas-based operations of Cingular Wireless announced the addition of a new cell that provides enhanced wireless service for residents and commuters traveling in the area between Interstate 40 and Tradewind Airport. The new cell is based on Global System for Mobile communication technology and is part of Cingular's plans to spend $98 million in North Texas through 2004 in an effort to bring greater coverage and enhanced service to Texas. Jan Collier, director of sales for Cingular, said the new site means increased capacity for calls in a growing area. "Cingular continues to go beyond the major cities and interstates to provide our customers an advanced network with increased capacity and enhance coverage," Collier said. Cingular's plan for North Texas and the Panhandle is part of the company's national focus to invest $3 billion during 2004 -- adding more cell sites, circuits and switches -- for an enhanced wireless experience. Spokesman Frank Merriman said the new Amarillo cell site is part of Cingular's ongoing commitment to deliver the best wireless experience possible for customers. The Cingular Wireless executive said throughout the year Cingular will roll out a number of new initiatives that support its commitment to improving the customer experience at all points of contact. In 2003, Cingular invested more than $168 million implementing an advanced GSM/General Packet Radio Service network and improving coverage and capacity throughout North Texas. GSM gives customers the latest technological advances, including phones with more functions and unique features, high-speed data connectivity and superior sound quality. According to a Cingular news release, almost a billion people in 200 countries use this technology. -----
Oh my God! AMAZING! They just added ONE new cell site! How exciting! :lmao: :highclap: :hyper:
All the major carriers put out press releases for this stuff. What amazes me is someone picking them up!
They should fill in the big hole in west Texas too. West Texas is always neglected, even by the state.
