Cingular has just dropped the Sony Ericsson Z520a - just as I was about to buy one. They claim it has "memory leakage" problems. Does anyone know if this phone will be back? If not, is there any other Cingular phone that is Quad Band and has both Bluetooth and IrDA?
I have a friend that just bought one. He says the battery life and the reception are great. I hope they bring it back.
Maybe Charlyee will stop by and share a few things, being that she has this phone herself. I can tell you this, if there is a problem with that phone, it was MOST LIKELY caused by Cingular tampering with SE's software in modifying it for their service!!!
I think I posted in another thread that the last Cingular rep I spoke with said the phone was removed because it was only a "holiday promotion." :loony:
This makes no sense. Many Motorolas have far much more serious problems and Cingular doesn't drop them (the Mpx220 comes to mind). But if they drop it that's no problem. There are always dealers online and agent stores that still have some left over.
Whay does it have to make sense Yes, I did find the phone on-line, but my present plan is to stick with Verizon.
The phone will be back as early as 1-24 . Cingular is waiting on a software update before rereleasing . Since this phone may be used as a PTT later on i would think they would want to keep it in the forefront.
I have the phone and I have yet to have the problems it was recalled for. I dont travel either so Im not the best example, but whatever.
I used the z520a for about a month and the only problem I noticed was a temporary menu freeze on some menus, kinda like when a computer is too busy to process something, but if you wait a few seconds it unfreezes and continues normally again. You could see it would flash very quickly through all the keypresses you did while frozen in order to catch up with you. This problem did not happen often, it was only on some functions such as when trying to delete an audio recording or when digging through some deep menus. However, 98% of the times the menu response is instantaneous. I've seen Nokias and Motorolas reboot, freeze much worse than that and they never got recalled. Maybe Cingular is is being more picky about software glitches which is a good thing. But then again, if they are going to do that, I see them recalling every single phone out there.
this phone has PTT? i dont see any buttons for it!! on the side it has the volume keys and the camera button... strange...
Why do you think the phone has PTT? I don't have the phone but did download the manual from the Sony Ericsson web site when I was considering moving to Cingular. The part of the manual that shows all the controls and displays on the phone does not show any PTT button.
I have the Z520i and it does not have PTT. I am not quite sure what the OP means that this is one of the phones that is later going to be used for PTT.
Would they really add a button or change the function of a button and leave the model number the same?
The volume button the side is multifunction, in the flip closed position pressing the lower end shows today's appointments and pressing the top end scrolls phone no. battery charge and other info. It is quite possible to make this a PTT button, however it would be very unlikely that the model number would remain the same, typically it would have a suffix of "T". Just my 2 cents.
