The word/rumor is out that the new name for Cingular will be AT&T Mobile. Ever noticed what happens when you go to http://www.attmobile.com ?
AT&T Mobile, eh....That is something new to get used to. I still don't see why they want to get rid of the Cingular name, after they poured billions into marketing that name. Also, at least here, the AT&T Wireless name wasn't portrayed as being all that great, maybe that's why they may chose AT&T Mobile.
Ed Whitacre announced a few days ago that it would be renamed. He stated he was not yet sure whether the words "wireless" or "mobile" would be in the title. I guess now that AT&T owns 100% of the system, he can name it whatever he feels like. In an internal telecast yesterday, both Bell South and Cingular were welcomed into the AT&T family. I found that a bit strange seeing as 60% of Cingular was already AT&T but "whatever." Having 100% say in what the wireless division does nationally should be interesting.
Instead of saying to Cingular "welcome to the AT&T family", they should say "Let's welcome the 40% of Cingular to the AT&T family"
well just in case you didnt know.......some big companies will buy a lot of domains that contain their company name in it so if potential cusatomers go to the wrong site they will get redirected...... http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/c.../59933-at-t-concessions-seen-lead-merger.html news links in this forum say that it will be AT&T.............all AT&T services will be called AT&T.......they want customers tom see that all of their services are seamless..........telephony, U-Verse, VOiP, cellular, DSL, Fiber............they want it all to not only be on one network but to sound and look like one network.........it will be AT&T not AT&T Wireless or AT&T Mobile
"And the rest of you -- welcome back!" Yep, that domain has been registered in 1999, I don't think they could've anticipated the whole soap opera back then
I could still see it being either AT&T Mobile or AT&T Wireless just to differentiate the wireless end & the way these companies know Wireless is the core of their business now (same with Verizon) they may look at it in this light vs just the AT&T name. But who know's what the Corporate people that make millions a year will decide. I still like the contest idea, but that will never happen.
They could very well calle it AT&T and then refer to it internaly let me connect you to the wirless group. If they are going with AT&T then some how they have to make some sort of group seperation. on a side note, any one notice the home monitoring thing that they have, does this sound something that the Old blue had and Cingualr did not take on?
Like some have mentioned it sounds like AT and t-mobile so that may confuse people more. I wouldn't be surprised to just see at&t with no extra moniker at least in advertising like Sprint before the Nextel mistake. How many people say Cingular Wireless or Sprint PCS . No matter what its going to cause confusion. Half the Cingular employees don't even understand that its SBC that bought everybody out so i can't see the public getting it either.
I agree with you. half of the store employees have no idea who SBC or AT&T is. or even know who Bell South is (at least in my neck of the woods).
its almost like (oddly enought) that Americans dont care if they are paying skyrocketing prices and dont want to do something to make them lower.........the first thing about action is learning something about the target
I agree. If they, those who don't want to pay the higher prices, would look at www.mywireless.org they'd be able to learn of ways to combat this.
I have sent numerous emails or letters from this site to my State & Federal senators & legislators, they are one of the main people that fought the "Spanish-American War" taxes on our phone bills.
i read about that Spanish-American war tax in the newspaper and it seems kind of careless that they didnt cancel that tax after the war was over.......
No I haven't noticed that, is that where you can monitor the home from your Cell? I can see where people can confuse AT&T Mobile with T-Mobile. And when you think about it as you and others have mentioned, most people say just the main name for all wireless carriers IE: Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Alltel & don't say the wireless part unless getting into a discussion and then it's mention "The wireless side or part". I am suprised that most Cingular employee's don't know or understand the SBC buyout situation with AT&T or BellSouth, especially with all the news about it. Guess internal document/memo's are not that big or used at Cingular, maybe now that they are 1 company that will change.
At an outsourced call center I know of, and one my wife used to work in, the Cingular/at&t people know all about the merger/buyout. They also know that their responsibilities as far as what they'll be doing are going to treble.
It is call at home monitoring. ATTW used to have it untill Cingular let it go. See this link: http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=8595
What do you mean about their responsibilities? Are they talking about CSR's dealing with Wireless & more like wireline ect... I do remember that now, Again when data prices come down, more people would use something like this.
The day before the official announcement I visited a a cingular store in a shopping center directly across the street from the corporate office I work in (here in CA). They were all very well aware of upcoming announcement and the impending name change. This merger has been in the works for several months so I would be surprised to find that any employee of the new AT&T (SBC), Bell South or Cingular was somehow in the dark. If they were, it is only because they chose to ignore the announcements and even the special (internal) website that had been setup.
A new internal website? Why? I guess if you are an employee, you know where to look. If not, its inconsequential. Sorry, I'm not intending to be glib I guess I just don't understand.
I have noticed the naivete of most people on this site, not all. I have lurked and posted here for years before I became a member. I can not believe you are all as uninformed as those who post here. When SBC bought AT&T they took the AT&T name and symbol, T, on the NYSE. They got the T symbol on the NYSE, worth a lot of money and pride. Cingular? Worth less than used toilet paper internationally. I know most folks on this site live in what is cruelly referred to as the fly over areas of the United States of America, but please folks, AT&T is an international name. Cingular is a local name, if you have Cingular service you have now been graduated to the world class identification of AT&T. Still more economical to be with Tmobile, but it is your choice. I have have about 400 shares of AT&T, none of TMobile. I trust that people are foolish enough to use AT&T/Cingular that I will make money. Make my day.
Yes internationaly AT&T is still a big name and when I used to say I had ATTW and they knew what I am talking about but Cingular is a no name for them. But what others are talking about here is the US market where peole got used to the name and got to know it.. As to T mobile, I heard they will be changes as we go along. This started by them adopting the 2 year contract and now it looks like their data plan prices is going to goup and guess what will happen next? Only time will tell. I had their service but it did not serve me where I need it most.
It's not a question of IF....its a question of WHEN. They will even have to change their phone number. The good'ol 1-866-CINGULAR will be gone!
I believe they've been phasing it out for a while now, at least they told us back when we still were on the Cingular forums to stop giving that number to contact CS.
Yugopro, there is no need to be nasty in this thread or on this forum. If you had really lurked for years you would know that there are plenty of people who know the history of AT&T, SBC, ATTWS and Cingular. There are plenty of people from the coasts as well as the heartland. There are plenty of people who travel internationally, as well as a number of active international members. So we are well aware of how the US and US brands are perceived abroad. The mods here allow anyone to become a member. However, if you really want to be part of the community you should learn to be nice. SW
