Ensure that 01144 (011 - international direct dial code, 44 - U.K.) is in front of your friend's mobile number, before the reply is sent. It's possible that not all of the required digits are there. Some countries also have city codes that would come after (in this instance) the 44.

This page has a list of the country codes and the hours away from GMT.

Hope this helps in some way.

Try +44number as well (01144 may work, +44 is more likely to work).

Ask your friend what provider he is using in the UK. It's possible that Cingular doesn't support SMS to the UK provider. When I lived in the UK from 2002 until May this year, I had Vodafone UK and my brother uses Cingular. We were able to SMS without any problems. If the provider is not the issue, I would suggest looking at another SMSC (SMS Service Center Number). Cingular uses more than one. I'll ask my brother which number he has and then post it here.

    Look here:

If your friend is on Orange UK or on Virgin Mobile UK, ask him to try and roam on O2 UK or T-Mobile UK as these are the supported providers according to the above Cingular site.

    Good Luck

Virgin Mobile is an MVNO on T-Mobile in the UK.

Is he able to roam on O2? He should also try Orange or Vodafone to see if he can get on their networks.

Well I tried calling Cingular tech support. The say my account is set up correctly and they do support texting to the UK with 02 and Tmobile. My friend has Tmobile.

They stated it might possibly be due to the fact that they are updating the towers they acquired from AT&T.

I find this not very helpful. I was told to keep trying and that my problem would be logged and sent on top the next tier tech support as this level could not solve my problem.

    Any suggestions?
