I called some people i still know at cingular and according to them the unlimited plan was a rumor and nothing ever came of it yet. They heard about it but no further detail was given to them as to where, when, or even if it was going to be deployed. Also the plan was NOT going to 49.99 the price point that was given to me was 99.99 neway just thought id share[IMG]

    Bob,

Just curious. Why are you glad to be back on TDMA? I have the 6340i phone and I love the fact that I get the GSM. Wish I could also get CDMA as well.

It is always nice to get both GSM and TDMA, but not the way I was getting it. The 6340i is probably the worst attempt at using GAIT. The miserable phone would just suspend service in the middle of a perfectly good service area just to look for its home towers and would take too long to re-gain service. In the meantime, I could miss incoming calls and could not make calls until it was done doing its search. This would happen every couple of minutes. Also, I wouldn't have minded to be on GSM full time by putting the SIM on a GSM-only phone, but the GSM coverage in my area is so shameful it is not worth it. I could not have a single entire conversation in my car without having to re-dial because I would often come across areas where the call dropped. This was not only because of weak/dead areas, but because the network simply took too long to handoff. I could get as close to 1/4 mile from a tower and the phone would not switch to it until it was too late and the call dropped. I also used a 6590i and the same thing happened in the same spots, so I don't believe it was a problem with the phone in that case.

Another thing, since I was often in dead GSM spots, the 6340i would switch to AT&T TDMA for two minutes, then would lose service because it wanted to find GSM again even though TDMA was strong. After a minute of failing to find GSM, it would regain TDMA service again, then it went through the same cycle over and over every couple of minutes. This was a constant waste of battery and the phone didn't last nearly as long as it should've with full charge.

Now, the 6340i would be just a little more tolerable if it didn't buzz that loud in my ear. Everyone that has worked for Cingular knows about this problem. This was causing the other party to have trouble listening because the buzz from the transmitter was so loud. And let's not forget about the self-power off annoyance. A lot of times, I would put the phone in my pocket just to take it out five minutes later and discover it was powered off.

After I got fed up with the problems, I got myself an 8265 so I can always roam on TDMA which is hand-down much more reliable than Cingular GSM in this area. Therefore, I am simply glad to get service that works where I need it with a phone that works as intended.
