Does anyone know where there are maps of cingular's 1900mhz coverage because i bought my phone over-seas (sony ericsson k600i) and it doesnt have 850 mhz which cingular uses a lot. I just want to know when i should ever bring along my bad phone that has 850mhz whenever i go places in the usa.

Sorry, the 1900 Mhz and 850 MHz coverage maps are not available separately. The Cingular coverage maps show both frequencies - that is, whichever is strongest at a given location - but they are not distinguished from each other. They are distinguished from the 3G signal, which you can choose to overlay or not.

Where do you live and/or travel? Just out of curiosity, did you ever consider the W810i? I mean, the 3G on the K600i is useless in this country, and beyond the style, it offers nothing that the W810i doesn't.

    Same problem here:
I have a tri-band and coverage is now very spoty...
It sounds that Cingular recently turn on 850 Mhz GSM...
Is it now required to have a quad-band to be on Cingular?

No but it helps if the phone has 850/1900. Also Cingular has had 850Mhz GSM for several years.:D

    i would get the w810
    but
im not made out of money
its pretty pricey to buy in the store
    i like my phone
and cingular is starteing to work again in my area
    (houston)
i wasnt the only one with this problem
but now that i can get a signal in my town
    now cingular has capacity issues
i'd say about 9 out of 10 calls dont go through
    and it says
    network busy
    argen smargen
    i hate cingular!!!!

Perhaps because cingular is using more and more 1900 in many places for 3G. Leaving regular GSM on 850 and giving UMTS the 1900 spectrum? Over the next few months when 3G really gets turned on we'll be seeing more and more threads where tri-band phones don't work. If the phone is that important to you, t-mobile will be your only answer.

But even T-Mobile is getting into the 850 band. Most phones they sell have 850 on them now, and I believe they have been purchasing 850 spectrum in some areas. Their eventual goal is to have coverage that rivals CIngular and Verizon. They will need 850 to do that.

How did you determine that? It just says 1900 off to the side on the map.

    On the other hand...

I just unlocked an Ericsson T610 (900/1800/1900) and it still only picks up T-Mobile where I am, whereas the quad band phone I got to replace it can see Cingular Wireless. That map would indicate that I should get Cingular's 1900 signal here if it were 1900 only.

Maybe Cingular is using 850 where I am, and walkguru is correct. I was just wondering how walkguru determined that it was both bands... not contesting it.

deductive reasoning, i know for a fact that okc is 850 only, and it shows up on that map. besides walkguru is the smart, ok, ok, alleck.:loony:

    Whew!

It said "Network Unlocked" when I entered the code -- but I was wondering after T-Mobile was still all I could get here. That actually makes me feel a lot better. The map had me worried if it really was 1900 only. Cause I'm selling the phone, and it's advertised as unlocked.

(yes, I did list the bands it uses)
