I have been with Verizon for about 5 years now. I have 4 phones on my account. I need to drop from the 1400 minute plan to the 700 minute plan. I have started service with T-Mobile and find it far superior. Does anyone know how to get Verizon to change plans without a 2 year contract extension? I don't want to extend it because I plan to drop Verizon after my current contract is up and switch all my lines to T-Mobile.

^ If you are on the AC2 plan now and move to an AC2 700 minute plan that has the same features and promotions then you shouldn't have to extend your contract. "Ask" the rep. who you talk to about lowering your plan first though. And make sure that you save the confirmation letter that you receive in the mail. That will confirm the contract end date for you.
I did a plan change also before leaving them and because the plan included all the same promotions I was not required to extend my contract, but I also got it in writing.

Actually, all price plan changes require at least a 1 yr agreement. My question to you is how long do you have left in your agreement? If you have less than a year than you might just have to ride it out on the 1400 minute plan. Otherwise, it's a shame to see you go. Verizon is working on a lot of exciting things, and I've always thought that Verizon was the most reliable service.

Actually the OP should check with the customer service reps. on this one, because as stated above, when I changed my plan I was not required to extend my contract. Although that was a while ago and their policies may have changed since then.
Also the most "reliable" depends on your carriers coverage in the areas that you travel to. I used to believe that they were too until I discovered GSM. ;)

What's the harm in asking? Although I have 16 months remaining in my contract, I was able to go from the 700 minute plan to 1400. I just asked whether the rep could do it without an extension. It was done and on top of it, I have 250 bonus minutes (monthly for six months) on the secondary line... and I didn't ask:D

Just ask the CS rep... you may get what you want.

Actually you're both right. In the past you used to be able to change plans without a contract extension so long as you stayed within the same footprint. Since you were going from Americas Choice to Americas Choice there would be no contract extension. Let's, say however that you were going from the Digital choice plan to Americas choice, then they would have wanted a contract extension. This policy has been changed since all of the plans became nationwide. Now at least a one year contract is required on all price plan changes, unless you already have longer than 1 yr remaining on your existing contract. For instance, Quint didn't have to extend his contract because he had 16 months remaining. That said, it never hurts to ask, I just wanted you to know what the official policy is.
