I wouldn't suggest it. It's been reported by some they can flash away from the newer firmware to the older one. It's also been reported tho, that by doing so it can brick the phone. I have a few friends that got phone with the new firmware. One of them was able to get the old flash on it. My other buddy tried going to it and it bricked his phone.

Just use p2kcomannder to get your ring tones and pix on the phone. It still works doing it that way with the newer firmware. MPT seems to be the biggest issue with the newer firmware.

Be careful with P2kCommander, it has no built in safeguards like MPT does. MPT will not allow you to accidentally change or erase system files, P2kCommander will let you do anything, including deleting critical files.

There's no tutorial for it that I know of, but I warn you to be extremely careful with that program. It will not stop you and ask "Deleting or modifying this file may cause your phone to not work". It will do exactly what you tell it to, and not care about the consequences.

Good call Jay2, guess I'm to use to using it so it's not a concern to me which is my bad. Thx for giving the heads up on that tho.

As for info on p2kcommander or using the different softwares for CDMA phones great place to checkout is this link. It's covers all kinds of " How To's" including how to set the software up, how it works, what specific versions should be used and so forth. It's not as confusing as a lot of what you see on the web because this link & info is all specific to CDMA model cell phones. to many folks get in trouble because they see something about " Razr" well there are numerous model and different types of digital networks. So what works on a GSM model Razr will not and more then likely with brick or ruin your CDMA Razr. Anywhoo here is the link to start with for ya. Peace

What would you recommend instead, for those of us with the new Verizon firmware?

There is no other option when it comes to ring tones and the new firmware from VZW.
