I feel ya, man, but even if Ceno had some good insider dirt on the v710, he'd be in massive violation of his NDA if he relayed any of it here.
Getting no love from Cenobyte.....and no love from Verizon as far as any new phones. Don't I remember something being said that Verizon's goal was to release like 50 some new 'units' this year....units being phones and Blackberrys. Hmmmm.......year is half over and what are we up to....5 maybe?
Ceno is busy with work he tells me. Motorola announced the V260 and V265 for Verizon today. As I mentioned first awhile ago. I also gave up some V710 details in another thread. The love is there, you just aren't looking.
Ahhh, yes, I see the PR on the V260 and V265.....I see Brew but didn't notice Verizon mentioned specifically. And what can this translate to: 'expected to be available in the 4th quarter' Second quarter 05?? Again.....no love from Verizon. I do admit, they did sneak out a couple new Samsung phones.
I've been nowhere, just that as a Sprint customer, Howardforums had more of the info I needed. WA is more for Verizon and Nextel, for some odd reason. Anyway, it's good to know Ceno is alive and well. I expected to come here and see a bunch of posts by him, and when I didn't, I thought something had went wrong. If he's doing it for his job then he has all my blessings.
What's curious is that I couldn't find anything about either phone on the FCC database. You'd think Moto and VZW would know better than to announce a phone that doesn't even have FCC approval yet.
With the Moto [censored] for GSM just weeks away from being unveiled? I'd wait. Moto's "ace-in-the-hole" has been kept secret and should be announced this month.
It won't be, and even if it is....if it is for Verizon you will have to plunk down 3 or 4 large to get it.
Luckily I don't have Verizon. But I'll still have to plunk down 3 or 4 large for it I guess... does anyone know the proposed cost of the v260... ballpark?
I am not sure about the regional CDMA outfits, Alltel, MetroPCS etc, but I know Verizon certainly does not offer any decent deals on their phones. Similar quality phones that Verizon sells for 60 or 70 bucks are pretty much free at other carriers. Not to mention the reseller's incentives, which Verizon resellers don't seem to have. A friend of mine picked up 2 Cingular V400s at Best Buy for 29.00 each. They compare to the Verizon A670 that cost 129???? Give me a break. Hmmm...more expensive phones, more expensive service, GSM is growing....hmmmm I say.
Yeah, but riddle me this. What happens when/if CingulATT becomes the dominant wireless telco? Do you think they'd continue to offer resellers such sweet incentives? The market data support's VZW's pricing, as much as I hate to admit it. Look at the churn rates since WLNP went into effect. VZW just passed 40 million customers, people are fleeing ATTWS like it's the Titanic on the iceburg; VZW doesn't have to offer as many free or near-free phones because they know the consumer is coming to them anyway. That said, VZW will need to start getting more agressive with their pricing (and their rates, but that's a different discussion) if they want to become #1 again after the CingulATT merger. We'll see where the V710 and V810 fall on the pricing structure. It's possible that Moto's subsidy will be higher than Samsung's on the a670, etc., so there's no way of knowing until it releases. But now I'm really curious about the new SuperSecret GSM Moto. I'm assuming it's not the V1000 (Klingon communicator), since that's already been announced.
Wow, I hadn't heard about that phone until you mentioned it. It does look like a Klingon Communicator. I like most Moto phones, design-wise at least but this phone has an ugly, Nokia-like quality to it. I think it's the squared-off edges and weird, triangular keys.
All good points. That's great for Verizon if they can continue to get the growth they want without being more competitive on their rates or phone prices. Wonder ow long that will be the situation? I may or may not represent the average customer, but they are about to loose my business. There are just so many better deals out there.
Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm right there with you. I was planning on jumping on the v710 bandwagon when it came out, but if VZW is planning on both gouging the consumer through GIN *and* crippling the TransFlash card and Bluetooth so that GIN is the only way to move media on and off the phone - and then charge an arm & a leg for the phone itself, then I may have to launch the great GSM experiment. I've toyed with the idea in the past, and very nearly jumped until I found out about the v710. But...well, we'll see, won't we. *deep breath* Sorry. Ranted for a moment.
This is one phone that nobody has seen. I don't want to hype it, because while I know more than most, it is still very little. From what I hear, few pictures are even available within the walls of Moto. It is such a non-Motorola looking phone it was decided very early to not let word of this thing out. If you like big phones, this one will greatly disappoint you.
It's always tease, tease, tease, isn't it? Now you've got me MORE curious. Do you at least have an idea of how long of a wait before the announcement?
Interesting. I have to admit, as much as VZW has the best network in central Jersey, I'm seriously becoming disenchanted with their plans & phones. (Yeah, this sounds alot like what I said a few months ago. I go through phases.) I saw in the Best Buy circular this week that they're selling the Cingular V600 for $149 after a $100 rebate - and you get a free (after rebate) V400 with it. When you compare that to a probable $300+ for the V710...ugh. Well, we'll see what happens.
No doubt.....I like to feel I am getting a decent deal, price of the phone and service. With Verizon, I don't feel like I am getting that. I know I could probably get a few bucks for my 4500, extended battery and V60i and extended battery on Ebay....that would help offset the early out charge if I was to bolt now and switch to Cingular....I give it thought at times. I would pay less for similar amount of minutes, or, get more minutes for what I am paying now, better and more reasonably priced phones, and similar service....not much to think about.
This was regarding the V260 and v265. Here is the FCC approval, pictures, user manual (aka stolen from v710) etc. Link
Yes, since my origional post, phonescoop had posted some pictures of the two phones. But like other Motorola Verizon phones (V810/710)....they seem to fall into that phone pergatory that lay between testing and store shelves.
