Could anyone explain why the switchover from TMobile to Cellular One roaming almost never works? When I go out of a TMobile area and into Cell One, my phone doesn't switch. If I try to force it in manual network selection, it sees Cell One, but won't register on it. The only fix is to power-cycle the phone. Sometimes several hours have passed before I realize I've forgotten to power-cycle the phone and someone had been trying to reach me. This only happens when going INTO a Cell One area. If I leave Cell One and enter TMobile, it switches without a hitch. It's not particular to my phone, either. I have three phones on my plan, all different models. They all do it. Also, this one Cell One tower which I pass almost every night seems to have a certain time window from about 12:50 a.m. to 1 a.m. where it will accept registration without a power-cycle. T-Mobile has been no help so far, other than to tell me it's a Cell One issue.
You phone will stay locked on once you power cycle it? It could very well be the CellOne giving you a problem, have you tried to call them? That should be T-Mobiles job and maybe they aren't worried since they don't know if when it becomes AT&T's network they will keep the roaming agreement? I am sure they will, just have to think of all the possibilites now a days.
I used to see this driving up NY Route 17 towards Liberty. T-Mobile coverage ends around Wurtsboro and Cellular One picks. I usually make the trip twice a year and up until last November, I had to power cycle to get the phone to register on Cellular One. This time I was surprised to see it switch over without any prodding. I also had seamless handoff between T-Mobile and Cellular One along NY-63 around Peoria Curve in Wyoming County though I have never had any problems there before so it was not ununsual. Also Cellular One has improved the coverage along 17 considerably such that there are no more GSM holes. I had some kind of GSM service all along my trip though some areas, notably between Deposit, NY and Binghamton, NY were 911 only. Many of the old New York Telephone (now Verizon) towers that only had a single antenna array for Verizon Wireless on them now sport an additional array that I believe is Cellular One since there are strong GSM signals from them now. I did have some handoff problems to Cingular heading south on I-390 when I left T-Mobile territory that did require a power cycle. That happened around Wayland, NY.
That's interesting that your having that problem. Give CellONE a call. I just went to Corning 3 days ago my KRZR didn't have any problems switching between T-Mobile and CellONE. Samething when I went from I-90 down the Taconic Pkwy 2 weeks ago, no issues. Let us know what CellONE says.
