Guys, some bad news just in from the FCC. I was looking at rcrnews.com and found this:

Well, the Scam Plan is just that, another Nextel scam. It wasn't going to stop the ongoing jamming of our radio systems. I like what the column in 4Mobility says, if Nextel wants their precious 1900 for free, which we all know they will scam the FCC out of somehow, fine...but they should get the heck off 800MHz anywhere they are causing interference to any of us (which is just about everywhere there are 800MHz on public safety and Nextel noisemakers on the air).

I just wish the FCC had the balls like it used to when we had a chairman like the late Newton Minow...but that was a different time indeed...

    Fire 14,

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW CAN HURT YOU BROTHER!! What that article (and many others touting the Scam Plan as the end all "answer") fail to inform you is that:

1)-Nextel is responsible for the majority of interference (over 95 percent) according to APCO.

2)-IT WILL TAKE YEARS UNDER THE SCAM PLAN for NEXTEL TO VACATE THE 800MHz BAND ALTOGETHER...THUS, THE INTERFERENCE WILL CONTINUE.

3)-Nextel lies and lies again. When they started jamming your, my and others' radio systems back in 97/98 they denied it completely. Then when APCO and the FCC identified Nextel as the culprit, they accepted SOME responsibility but said "it isn't just us"...now, that the overwhelming evidence is out there, they accept responsibility but are just SO CONCERNED for US that they want to "help make it right" by shuffling our radio frequencies around so they won't bother us. Then, they want free access to some new bandwidth to offer enhanced services to it's customers, and at that time, they will get off OUR band and quit molesting us. This can take YEARS...it is all spelled out in the Scam Plan brother. I suggest sitting down with your radio system manager and read it with him if you come across the shop talk. Nextel likes to do this to confuse end users.

4)-THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES OR DEADLINES TO MEET SHOULD THE SCAM PLAN FAIL (which it will, because it was put together by people on the Nextel payroll, and not by independent persons with true knowledge of RF, iDEN and public safety radio) AND NO INCENTIVE FOR NEXTEL TO RESOLVE CURRENT INTERFERENCE COMPLAINTS WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME (such as 60 days).

5)-Remember, NEXTEL KNEW BACK IN 1996 WHEN THE DECISION WAS MADE TO START IMPLEMENTING PICO CELL (that is small cell sites close together) THAT IT WOULD INTERFERE WITH US. THE FCC KNEW (but they bought and paid for FCC officials like William Kennard and Reed Hundt...who guess who he works for now.. NEXTEL) AND DID NOTHING. SHOULD WE TRUST THESE DIRTBAGS AGAIN? THEY HAVE LIED TO US BEFORE AND WILL DO SO AGAIN MAKR MY WORD SIR.

6)-While many support the Scam Plan, they do so because many DO NOT UNDERSTAND RADIO, RF INTERFERENCE or iDEN NETWORKS. Many who are communications directors or system managers have only LIMITED KNOWLEDGE of these fields and thus, usually rely on outside parties to provide them with information, such as their contracted radio shops, MOST OF WHOM ARE MOTOROLA/NEXTEL RETAILERS. So what do you think they are going to say when the subject comes up on 800MHz interference...THE SCAM PLAN of course! And why is that, BECAUSE THEY GET TO SELL MORE RADIOS, BILL MORE HOURS FOR LABOR AND MAKE MORE $$$$$ "SOLVING" A PROBLEM WHICH THEY THEMSELVES CREATED!!!

And who benefits from this SCAM PLAN? In this order:

NEXTEL: they get 10MHz of spectrum to launch their next generation broadband wireless (which they are already testing now), get to add more subscribers, and slowly phase out iDEN over a 7 year period (then maybe their nosie will stop???)

MOTOROLA: who gets to sell BILLIONS of DOLLARS WORTH of NEW multi-format base stations, subcriber units, network infrastructure, consulting services, new public safety radios, infrastructure and no doubt MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN LABOR CHARGES for the reprogramming of thousands of PS radios, repeaters, duplexers, antennas, etc etc etc..

LAWYERS: who get to rack up fees for all the legal paperwork involved in frequency management, licensing issues, litigation, etc.

FCC: they will LOVE the fees they get from all the paperwork and auctions no doubt.

    WHO PAYS?

WE DO! You actually believe that Nextel alone is gonna pay for all the above? Get real man! The taxpayers will! Your agency will have to come out of pocket for the programming, alignment and restructure of your system. The scam plan MAKES NO MENTION of how the money that Nextel supposedly will put up will be doled out. Not to mention the huge inconvience of rebanding your (and my) radio system that has to be in service 24/7/365. It is a logistical nightmare. And yours is just one of the 22 thousand out there.

AND WHAT IF LO AND BEHOLD, IT DOESN'T WORK... WHAT THEN?

Well see above! Motorola gets to sell us even MORE OVERPRICED RADIOS as a "solution" to this "problem"! We get to pay out more fees, more labor charges! Heck, why don't we just do what Nextel really wants us to do and move our life safety comms to their crappy iDEN network and pay them to talk because that is where it is headed....

Take it from a radio system manager who isn't on the Nextel/Scam Plan payroll and cares about you and your co-workers. I get nothing from any spectrum auction, and personally, I could care less about Nextel getting their 10MHz at 1900 if it will GET THEM OUT OF OUR HAIR under ONE CONDITION:

GET THE HECK OFF 800MHz WITH YOUR CRAPPY SYSTEM THAT PUTS MY GUYS' LIVES AT RISK AND STAY FAR AWAY FROM US...TODAY. NOT IN FIVE YEARS, TODAY.

If they agree to add that to the Scam Plan and they pay for it...let them have their 1.9GHz.

Take care and be safe, and remember, NEVER TRUST OR TAKE ADVICE FROM SOMEONE WHO IS TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING....

That is one of the reason's i posted the link, so others see what i have been hearing. I agree you can't trust Nextel or the FCC. All Corporations are only in it for themselves.

    Fire14,

Exactly my point: how can a so-called "concensus plan" be comprised of directives given by those who would benefit the most financially?

And I find it amazing how overnight everyone in the wireless industry is an expert on iDEN, RF interference and public safety radio systems, yet these self-proclaiming experts offer ZERO technical evidence of their claims...

Those of us who really do posess and RF background and aren't on the Nextel Scam Plan payroll know the reality of the issues and what the appropriate solutions is: make Nextel either go back to being a high site ESMR (and fix every site that interferes with us) or move off 800MHz. It is as simple as that.
