I am currently an AT&T subscriber and have horrible service or no service at all from after exit 14 to the end of the PIP, continuing on to 9W heading toward Newburgh (Fort Montgomery). There are also dropouts in the 9w Bear Mountain area until you hit a highly visible cell tower. After that it drops out again until you hit the center of Cornwall. This is SO annoying as I travel the 9W to PIP route daily and CAN'T have a normal cell phone conversation without hurrying before it drops. Also, the reception absolutely sucks. Talk to me people! How can this be overcome? I actually researched putting a cell phone extender system in my car (would have to mount a big ugly external antenna and install an amplifier in the car) and it would set me back around $400. I can't handle this bs anymore! I know that service gets impeded by mountainous terrain but can't more cell towers be added for coverage? I think all cell service fails in this area of travel.
EvenPrint, There are messages here from all across the USA, and the rest of the planet. I think you are complaining about the western shore of the Hudson River valley in New York state (and beyond). I am not personally familiar with the area (although I was born in the Bronx). COtech
Yes! It is SO annoying and I really don't see many posts at all about it. I really wonder why people don't start a petition and complain. It is rediculous to be in NY and not be able to use a cellphone on my way home without getting dropped calls and spotty coverage. Also, I found that specifically AT&T coverage is horrible when driving from brooklyn into manhattan by the water. The closer you are to the water, the more frequently the calls get dropped. There is no excuse for that. But the Palisades ALL carriers die.
A Good Amplifier/ Antenna package will not cost you $400, shop around a bit. And the antenna does not have to be a big ugly one. The biggest problem is it is getting harder and harder for carriers to put in towers as enviormentalists fight them tooth and nail . There is also the cost . The average tower is around $600,000 to put in . If it is a sparsely populated area it just not worth it to them.
You may have a defective device, do you have another phone you can borrow from a friend for a day or two? Makes some comparisons between phones. I have a Iphone 3G that when it was on version 2.2 it only had 2 bars were as my HTC phones were full signal. I flashed the Iphone to version 3.0 and now it magically has full bars most of the time. The iphone cant touch my HTC for coverage but its better. If you can pick up another phone to test, you may have a bad device on your hands.
