Has anyone ever tried the external booster antennas like the ones found here? My parents like to go camping with their motorhome and a lot of the parks that they go to don't have good wireless coverage. I was hoping that one of these will help boost their signal since the antenna would be higher up and less trees will block it. Has anyone tired or even heard of these?
I don't know about those, but I do know a lot of RV people who use Wilson antennas and think they're great. Check out Wilson Electronics. - sheureka
Don't waste your money on passive repeaters. I got one and it did absolutely nothing for my signal. I ended up getting a wired Wilson antenna and I am very happy with it. The only problem is that you have the wire hanging from the back of your phone but it actually works. For State Parks, I am not sure if even an external antenna is going to help you. You might want to look into cellular repeaters ($500-$2500) but, they need at least a little bit of signal so that they can boost it. Good luck... -M
Yes, the "passive repeater" types are useless. The only way to improve signal is to get a high-gain (read: large) cellular antenna that physically connects to your phone through its external antenna jack. I priced out a couple of the higher gain antennas (7-9 dB) on cellantenna.com and it is going to run you $60-$90 including the adapter for your V60. Unfortunately I can't find performance ratings for wilson antennas, and it doesn't look like they have one that does more than 5 dB, but look into it.
And what about the booster antennas which go inside the cellphone, between the body of the phone and the battery?? Like this: http://www.brandcell.com/celphonboosa.html Do you think that they reallly have any effect? Do they work (if they work...) with any cellphone? Thanks. Silvia
Bobolito is right. Consider this, if there is even a small possibility that one of those stickers might help if it is in just the right spot, then it would be equally likely that the thing might actually make your signal worse if it were in the wrong spot.
______________ Perfectly put. In fact as one of my very old posts will attest: some time ago I did a RF experiment; placing a sticker on a RF detector. IT reduced the detection range by nearly 1/2, in the 900 MHz range. NOT GOOD!

Just wanted to know why most phones "CDMA" do not a place on the back to hookup a booster antenna? Is it because most networks are now designed for low watt phones, or that a CDMA tower will ignore you if you have too powerful of a signal?
