Ok here is a question and a poll. How often do you use your phone keypad on a weekly basis? Why do I ask? Well, with the phone's large stored address list, voice recognition, and the 5 way scroll button on my phone, I really don't need the keypad to place routine calls or browse the web. Sure for text messaging, it is a must. But otherwise, I get by with the 5 buttons on the NOkia 6230 pretty well. Even for things like setting the alarm clock, I use the 5 way button. Or I sync with my PC calender I'm thinking about this because of the new nokia sliders coming out. I had an old TDMA Nokia slider and it was ok, the keypads were protected and I didn't need to use the keypad for routine calls. Looking at the new sliders, I know some don't like them, but for most of my activities, I probably don't need to open the slider. When I'm at my PC (which is most of the time) I bluetooth my phone for textmessaging. So what is your % usage per week of your keypad when using your phone? More than 75%, 75%? 50% ,25%, lower than 10%? I'm at 25% or less.
I mostly use voice dialing with my bluetooth headset. I almost never even flip my phone open. There are a couple of #'s that I don't have set as voice dialing that I scroll through the phonebook to dial, (maybe 5x a week) and maybe 1 or 2x/week I actually dial a number.
I use my key pad a lot, but mostly for the calendar, to do list and other PDA functions, and for text messaging.
I text a lot, and I like to dial the number even though I could always to go it in my phonebook (unless I don't know the number). This way, I have the number memorized and I don't have to use my phone to tell someone a number or when I am able to use a home phone instead.
I use my dial pad for everything. The voice recognition on my Sanyo is garbage. If i ask to to "Contact Mom Mobile" it will end up saying "did you say chris?" In the end, it dosent work.
Yea, I probably should separate the PDA/treo/blackberry-phone guys from the rest of the crowd. They will use the keyboard more. However , most of my calendar entry is via the PC and then synch'd to the phone.
I took the original question as how many times you actually dial a number, and not use the phone book or voice dial. -Jay
What about speed dial? I'd say well over 75% of my calls are 1 or 2-digit speed dials. And if you're not in speed dial, I can find you in contacts with a fast search for first letter (sometimes 2 or 3), then scroll. I'm gonna vote assuming you mean using the keypad to dial the ENTIRE 7 or 10-digit number.
Most of my calendar and task entries are via Outlook also but I still manually enter when I am not near a computer. So, if I leave out the PDA functions, then I would also say 25% or less. I marked 75% on the poll.
This is a fairly interesting poll result. I left out speed dialing because that would require opening a slider to access a key. That would also be true for a fast search for the first letter. I do find the latter conveinent, so I better reconsider that in my slider thoughts.
Samsung SGH-e315 doesn't have VAD so I use the keypad, usually just the "#" key to go from silent to ring or from ring to silent, "1" for my VM or "2" to speed dial my wife. My Nokia 6015i has VAD and I just hit one key to speak the name of the person I want to call or the function (like VM, loud profile, silent profile, etc) the only thing I use the keypad for, other than the VAD button is the button to send my VM passcode when promted. Once I get my v600 back I'll probably use only VAD.
Its been almost 4 years since I've had a phone that didn't have voice dialing. Its rough, Hang in there buddy!
I voted more than 75% of the time. I speed-dial and text some. I haven't been motivated yet to try bluetooth, and the voice dialing spirit hasn't moved me yet. I guess I'm old-school!
How about a touchscreen keypad ?!! I use my MDA II's keypad maybe once or twice a day to make a quick call or send an SMS but on a PocketPC, you have to launch the E-mail/SMS and the Phone app before gaining access to the actual keypad. There are options for adding a physical keypad/board through the USB connector or via Bluetooth.
ShoresGuy... which phone do you use the most every day? And do you use that for talking and everything?
At the moment, it's the MDAII that sees daily use. Most of the time, I SMS a couple times a day. My calling is restricted to evenings and weekends when the prices are cheaper since I don't use the phone to the point where I need a contract.
