I have to do a white paper comparison between CDMA2000 and WCDMA for class. I've found a ton of information, but it's all so overwhelming and in-depth. Can anyone point me to a site that explains the standards in straight forward terms for someone with virtually no knowledge of 3G wireless networks? Thanks

I have been a critic of VZW CDMA voice quality for, well, as long as I've used them. However, I have noticed say in the past yr, certainly 6 months, that it seems to maybe sound better than it used to. Does the deployment of WCDMA perhaps have something to do with this ? Almost gives GSM a run for the money.

Can't really see a cause and effect relationship between UMTS deployment and perceived improvement in CDMAone quality. I would imagine that Verizon would strategically counter UMTS with EV-DO.

Will WCDMA bring some of the benefits of CDMA to GSM? Such as call handoff (hard vs soft handoff). Forgive my ignornance in the terminology.. but basically the way calls are switched off from a tower (CDMA seems to do a better job vs GSM currently).

Since Verizon is not installing WCDMA, it really has nothing to do with your perceived improvement.

Have you changed phones in the last year? Irt could also be that a new VZW site went online in your area.

And will also bring the lower battery life as CDMA has vs. GSM.

"has brought" would be be a more accurate tense. wCDMA has been in operation for some time.
