The network intends to feature five shows as part of the campaign. Beginning in September, CBS will set up billboards in New York City's Grand Central Station that will enable mobile users to watch a clip from a new CBS primetime series and then download that clip to their cell phone or PDA using Bluetooth technology. CBS is using Kameleon Technologies' MobiZone technology to power the initiative. "We are very excited to be one the first companies to bring this technology to out-of-home media," says Jodi Senese, executive VP of marketing, CBS Outdoor. "The ability to extend a brand's message from the static, 2-dimensional poster to an audio-visual clip on a cell phone provides endless opportunities for out-of-home advertisers to extend their messages." Five shows will be featured on the billboards - "Shark," "Smith," "Jericho," "The Class" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
New and intriguing use of Bluetooth technology, wonder how long before we start seeing other bluetooth uses, such as music kiosks that upload music to your phone via bluetooth.
I wonder what profiles is required... if it's OBEX, we can count out most VZW phones Oh well, at least I knew what I was getting into as I only use it for the headset profile.
i think this is just the tip, of the iceburg, so to speak. this might force them to open it up, we can hope.
Yeah I did that with my sony ericsson but what I'm saying is a commercial kiosk where you can say buy a cd in some protected format legally, ie iTunes kiosk at wal-mart or something along those lines.
Ok know when you go to a mall and see that round thing that has the map and store information, that would qualify as a information kiosk. A kiosk to the best of my information is defined as a freestanding self help center.
Found it. The word "köşk" is currently used to refer to an old Ottoman style building, made of wood and clad with natural stones, with multiple stories, mainly used as a summer or winter recreational residence for the wealthy within the old Ottoman Imperial Palace. In English-speaking countries, a kiosk is a booth with an open window on one side. Some vendors operate from kiosks, selling small, inexpensive consumables such as newspapers, magazines, lighters, street maps, cigarettes, and confections. An information kiosk (or information booth) dispenses free information in the form of maps, pamphlets, and other literature, and/or advice offered by an attendant. I would not want to put one of those in my phone.
Great, just what I need a message on my phone about reading or watching more advertising. I really hate the way advertising is trying to get into every single aspect of your life. At least it's not a text message or hearing a message prior to making a call or going on the net. But this will be just a matter of time, especially with the talk of free minutes for accepting advertising.
