I'd say it just dirt that gradually build up without you realizing it. Like finally giving my dog a bath and finding that indeed her coat is whiter than I thought!

I was at the Apple store today. Almost purchased the brown, but didn't. Still no happy about the wear and removal issue. I need a case that's easy on and off since I switch around a lot.

Lol vf, I clean it every week with a leather cleaner so there also had be a difference in the original color. I never liked how different the iPhone blue was from the ipad blue but the new case is almost identical in color to the iPad case.

Fading is also a factor of course.

I don't believe the iPhone blue was changed by Apple or lots.
It's always been a light blue, like the iPad.

Black seems to be the most durable color for this case.

Ah color variations in dye lots is a subject I am very familiar with, having grown up with a mother who owned a custom boutique in Kolkata and a husband who collects pre 1950 stamps dating back to 1854. In both cases the color variations in dye lots is prominently visible.

Color variations are invariable unless you are working with precision electronic equipment that is very expensive. I very much doublt something like iPhone/iPad cases would justify this additional cost.

The color was not changed by Apple or anyone else, it is just an inevitable color variation between dye lots. Anything leather I have owned like jackets, boots, handbags, gloves have always mentioned the inevitable color variation.

My guess in the case of my two cases would be that the first one was at the edge of the paler shade and the second one closer to the deeper shade of blue, while they are both within specs. They are both light blue but not the same. In fact a friend of mine has the blue from AT&T and it's lighter yet.

I have complained about how much lighter my iPhone case is than my iPad case, a few times since I got it, in an iForum. Others have posted the same. My new one however, is quite close to the blue of the iPad.

Btw, I don't believe you are aware of the fact (since you don't have leather cases for either), that the finish on the iPad case is different than the one on the iPhone case. The iPad case is smoother and less supple and has a slight sheen to it. This throws in yet another chance for color variation, the finish.

So the moral of the story is that yes there is some discoloration of the original case but it was never the same shade of blue as the new one, the darker colors would be able to mask this variation, and it is more obvious on my light blue.

    Ok I am done :D

Hmmm, yes I wrong to infer it was the same color as the iPad case, since i don't look at them often.
But I have seen the blue iPhone case frequently, since I live very near Apple stores and visit them routinely. Racks of them, all the same light blue

The iPhone case has always been a shade of blue like your new one, which is very close if not the same as what is shown on Apple's web page (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MF044LL/A/iphone-5s-case-blue?). It has never, never been as dark as your old case.

The comparison photos you have are a good demonstration of what people have been complaining about with the light color analine leather cases. It is just natural grime due to handling, and happens within days or weeks. Nearly all leather goods used for camera cases, automobiles, and uphoistery are made from pigmented leather, meaning leather that has a fine polymer overcoat to make it stain free or longer lasting. They are not made from Analine, like Apple chose.

Analine leather, untreated, is very supple to the touch, but absorbs grime and dirt like a sponge, and is not really removable.

I think people were expecting Apple to make the case from proper leather like used in my old Nikon camera case or even my newer Canon cases. Especially in light colors. Even high quality ladies bags are made from leather that can last every day handling.

So that explains so many complains on the forums, about 9,000 strong on MacRumrors.

If one is concerned to keep the leather in even a close semblance of the original 'store bought' condition, black or maybe brown is the best choice.

A good reading of the 3 types of leather is here:http://www.all-about-leather.co.uk/what-is-leather/leather-types.htm

My opinion is that once again Jon Ives chose design looks over practicality.

Using a LifeProof Fre front half in black and a LifeProof Nuud smoke back combo. Looks great on the space grey 5s.

    It looks brand new.

I am selling my brown Apple case and the two Spigen cases. If they sell I will only have the blue and the black Apple cases.

Lol, the devices will match each other. I have the blue case and the black smart cover for the iPad. I have a black Poetic slimline case for my Nexus.

The last few weeks of international travel I have been using all my cases.

    The Fre
    The spigen bumper
    The spigen slim armor S
    The brown Sena pouch
    The SF Bags Hint
    The SF bag felt cover.

    Each one has a purpose

Getting use to it naked with the Hint and Sena.

Oh wow, you traveled with 7 cases?

I have never taken a spare case with me when I travel.

Well, you should be able to now, with all the extra Apple cases you have. :)

The worst situation would be to buy a case you don't like in an airport terminal store, because the one you had, broke. Yuck! Like having to buy an off brand tire in some hole-in-the-wall garage, when you have a flat, and other 500 miles to drive!

I'll narrow it down, but, I always travel with at least one back up. The others suit the style for some of the formal evenings that I had.

I also frequently have a backup case for my phone when I travel. That is to say, I bring along an extra pair of pants :) Fortunately I've never been to a formal evening, so that's not an issue either :D

If I'm not mistaken, pants have as much right to be called a case as a bumper case does.

So there must be three types of cases: regular cases, bumper cases and pant cases, just like the thread title suggests :D

Dang, you guys are making fun of me. My main three are the bumper, slim armor S and Sena pouch.

So if pants are a case, then no one is going naked.

Lol vf, of course we are or at least I was. I wouldn't want to speak for dmapr specially on his birthday. ;)

I am glad to see you took it so well even though that takes some of the fun out. :D

Actually 3 of my cases are for sale including the brown Apple case, after that I will only have the blue and black Apple cases.

Re: comparison of the Spigen Slim Armor S and the Neo EX Slim

Here is the size of the iPhone 6 4.7" from a leaked source.

"Meanwhile, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is said to measure at 138 mm long, 66 mm wide, and 6.9 mm thick, as the weight of the device is not listed. For comparison, the iPhone 5s measures 123x58 mm and is 7.6 mm thick."

Now u can compare that to the cases above like the slim armor S

    The Moto X dimensions are:

129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 mm, the iPhone is taller, almost the same width and thinner. Interesting.

I figured it would be the same width as the X. Very thin though.

The length is required because of the hard home button on the iPhone.

The Moto X volume is 87K vs 63K cubic mm for the iPhone 6. Is that extra volume all battery or electronics too?

And here are the dimensions of the iPhone 5S Apple case. Measured by someone else.

    Here it is....iPhone 6

It weighs in at .53 Oz or 15 grams. It's thin which means the camera can't be protruding very much from the phone.
