Well, I received the Spigen Neo Hybrid. It is very, very nice. It actually is the same thickness as the bumper version. The opening for the power port is a bit larger and accommodates my lightening to 30 pin adapter cable.

    shown here: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/apple-iphone/82790-cases-cases-cases-4.html#post577220

I purchased it for some more rugged use, where I don't wish to use the LifeProof.

However, for general use, I'll stick to the bumper Neo Hybrid EX Slim. I like seeing the back...and I remember what happens when one lays down a solid backed case (especially a tpu black one) on a table full of crumbs!

What a mess! At least with the bumper, only the bumper ring has junk on it...not the metal phone back.

Anyhow, for those that want one, I can recommend the Neo Hybrid.

No problems with the Neo Hybrid EX getting loose? I always had that problem with their bumpers for the 4. Never bothered to try again on the 5/5s.

The Otterbox Commuter case I bought for the 5C is a nice case.
But like all cases, and why I don't like them.
    They're dust and dirt collectors.

The first one that I purchased in July this year, did 'slip' partly off at the corner. I think this is what most people observed and report. It never came completely off.

However, the second one purchased (not sure when, September?), in Dante Red, fits very well. I can only recall once where it reproduced that original slip. So I think they changed something.

My wife's sliver EX is over front and back screen protectors...which makes the fit even tighter. Now I'm only seen or heard her comment on a 'slip' once in 6 months. Like many women, she will place her phone in her back tight jeans pocket, where there is more likely to be a pull on the frame when removed.

For myself, my phone is loosely inside my front pants pocket, shirt pocket or winter jacket pocket, so I grab the whole phone, and never had a slip, except once as I said.

Regarding dust...I take the case off pretty often...and it does not collect dust underneath the bumper. I'm amazed by this actually. But it is pretty clean underneath. I could not say the same at all about the Spigen Slim Armor. That SA collected dust in the camera hole, and elsewhere. ( my Switheasy Tones was very much dust free too).

It's true, if I grab the long sides of the bumper, I can pull them out very easily away for the phones sides. But it never happens on its own. One cannot pull the short sides away. I would have certainly thought that this would be a dust entry point and that dust would scratch my phone.

Nope, no dust and absolutely no scratches. I've had no need to routinely remove the case to clean dust from under the frame.

Anyhow, a lot of words to say, with reasonable, and not baby care, it has not been slipping off for me under normal use. Maybe it is just me.

One observation with the new Neo Hybrid from yesterday...the camera hole collected dust. With the bumper, any normal pocket dust is spread around, and easy to clean off.

The only bumper case I ever tried was the Nokia branded one for the Lumia 900. It definitely had a noticeable slip every time I grabbed it. I guess I am in no hurry to try another bumber case.

The leather case fits really snug and the fit is perfect, thus preventing dirt and grime from getting in. Initially I was taking it off every week or so to clean, but wasn't finding any dust or dirt to clean.

Eventually I now take it off only if I was in a dusty environment, I still don't find anything much to clean.

The iPad case is the same way, having learnt from my iPhone I have only removed the case once so far and again no dirt to clean.

Hoping the brown one will have the same perfect fit as the blue. :)

It's true, a bumper is not for everyone. i really tried, but disliked the Apple bumpers for the 4 and 4S. It was too hard to remove, and somewhat over sized.

The Spigen is just perfect. There are others similar to it. When I put the Neo Hybrid on yesterday, I liked it, but all I could see was that black expanse of material on the back, completely hiding the two tone iPhone's back and logo. In particular, the new Space Grey color goes really well with the Metal Slate color.

These bumpers really seems to have put an end to my 'holy grail' search for cases. But I still look. I'd prefer to go without a case, and just use a nice leather pouch. But my current usage of a phone, just makes that really inconvenient. always in and out of the pouch.

The bottom line? They are all nice cases. And as I've said before...I wear more than one set of clothes too. ;)

I got my brown case today. The fit. quality, and finish are perfect, just like the blue one. It is not exactly what I would call brown but it is definitely very close to the color of my makeup which is usually what stains my cases. :D

What are you using in the dusty field AnthroMatt?

    Nice brown Charlyee.

I got my replacement dante bumper yesterday. I'll post that in a bit.

Here is the Spigen Neo Hybrid EX Slim that I received yesterday. My old one lasted 7 months of being taken on and off, before it snapped at the power port. Its very thin there.

This one, from Amazon Prime, came in new packaging, checked the OEM on it, and it real. The silicone TPU part seems even tighter than the last one. Its on there pretty solidly.

Shown with my flat ribbon accessory male-male 1/8" audio plug from JawBone ($15.) One side is red, the other grey, which matches the Space Grey back of the iPhone, just coincidentally.

My favorite case. The bright color is easy to spot when the phone falls between the sofa pillows. :)

As of yet, I am not sure. I have no planned fieldwork for the foreseeable future, so I'm not worried about that yet. I'd probably pick up a Frē to use in the field if we end up with a long term project. Otherwise, might go back to the ol Ziplock bag approach :p

I use my Lifeproof when fly fishing in the rivers here. I have the Fre. Very useful.

I agree that a Ziplock may be the best idea.

So, the sturdy iPhone case that saved my friend's iPhone from the pavement is one of the vaja cases, with the "hinge" at the bottom. He didn't volunteer the exact model name and I didn't ask. Figured remembering Vaja would be challenge enough :).

Thanks much for the information. Vaja makes great cases albeit a bit on the expensive side. I had a two tone Ferrari red and beige case for one of my ipaqs. I got lots of compliments on it and it protected well.

I believe Sena is in the same category as well. I had forgotten about both of them after I moved into Smartphones and no longer used handhelds.

Yes, they certainly look expensive, but you can get them on sale with a great discount. For instance, Top Leather Cases for iPhone 5 is $40 instead of the usual $100. In fact, this one looks very much like his, but his is a light brown.

That is similar to the one I had for the 4S. I had a camera hole not cutout. Was magnetic closure too.

I can't tell how the cutouts are for the audio jack. If the cover can be closed and still use the port, that's ideal.

It took a month to find mine. And it was only $25.

Miss it. Changing phone styles is ok if the case is only $25.

And yes my iPhone felt very protected in that case. Good leather is very sturdy and gives great drop cushion.

I ordered this ultra suede sleeve (with back mesh) from SFBags in San Fran.

Comes in two sizes. One for a naked iPhone, the second one is larger to fit a case the size of Apple's leather case (or my Spigen bumper).

$14. The one to fit my iPhone with the Spigen case on.

It will be useful to further protect the phone's screen and back during some travel situations, the gym or in a briefcase. Should get it in a few days.

Received my ultra suede pouch from SFbags (Waterfield).

Two photos. First has the iPhone 5S with Spiegen Neo Hybrid bumper fully inside. And the second with the phone slightly withdrawn. Pouch has a little handle at the bottom to assist removal.

It's a loose fit. And very lightweight. Made from the material one uses to clean eyeglasses or iPhones with. ;) Comes in leopard and tiger skin colors too. ;) The material can also be used to clean the iPhone front....

Perfect for the gym to keep it off the floor and hold the earphones. Also, if I'm going through airport security, and just wish to have a cover for the phone and case inside the security bins.

I was looking for something like this on Etsy.com. A felt pouch made with enough room for a cased iPhone. It can be done. This one has the elastic band on the back, which is cool for earphones or money, etc. So I went for it.

I have this case too, but it does add a little bit of bulk so I usually save it for when I'm doing an outdoor activity that requires a little more protection for my phone.

Hehe, my Note 3 is a large device, I'll give ya that. In terms of thickness, I think the 5S and GN3 are about equal as far as I can see. Some cases do add extra bulk to a phone, but so far both of my GN3 cases don't do that.

Thanks Vf, the perfect excuse I needed to order the Neo Hybrid EX Slim in satin silver.

I am not terribly fond of bumper cases but I was sold by your review, so hoping it will work out.
