Tell them the truth, albeit sadly, how you wanted the 5S, but none were available when you purchased. Offer them $140 if they just give you a reburb 5S, and the time they'll save replacing your screen.

JK. but I wouldn't be ashamed to give it a try at least.

Good luck Joseph. I feel your pain on this one. Its my greatest fear handing my phone everyday.

In any case...Backup the phone before you go!!!

I should have took Apple Care plus myself it's better than carrier insurance which I've always had. You only have 30 days from purchase to add it for a device though. That being said I just had my iPhone 5 on T-Mobile unlocked and now am using AIO. Of course I'm losing carrier insurance now but I got a great deal on a life proof case at Target. I managed to get a life proof case only one on a clearance rack for $40 and the original price was $80. Which is accurate as Amazon sells it for the same price. Anyways it's a life proof case and I feel pretty secure with it. You definitely get way more protection with a more expensive case. The cheap ones offer very little protection sometimes barely above not having one at all.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's between a Lifeproof and Otterbox case. I am going to Apple today to get the phone fixed.
The bumper cases are fine for just that, the occasional bumps.
They don't do much for shocks, which is probably why my screen shattered.
Lifeproof has a Fre case, buy it is $79, it got great reviews.

Thanks VF. The phone is backed up once a week.
I am buy early awaiting my appointment.
In the meantime, I'll look for an Otterbox case for this after I leave.

After tax, $158.31. I bought an Otterbox Commuter case while I waited.
Apple did a complete diagnostics, everything checked out ok.

Great Josephd! Happy to learn it went smoothly. How long did it take? I'm curious.

I sort of gotten into the mentality that I have to be aware of a glass smartphone as if it were a human baby. Just be aware of what is going on. Few babies are dropped on concrete and we don't place our kids in Otterboxes....well not yet anyways :)

Thanks VF, it took exactly 1 hour.
And truthfully, I am very careful with this phone.
I was surprised the screen shattered, considering the height it fell.
If I stick with IOS upgrade time. I will more than likely get the Apple care.
This was a painfully expensive day, and a lesson learned.

It shows how prices vary if you look around.
The Cellairis store in Natick, they were selling the Fre for $100.
Direct from the website, it is $79.

Mine was on clearance it had a $80 price on the original price and it looks like two mark downs on the clearance tag, it also had repackage on the clearance sticker so I guess somebody bought it and returned it and Target lowered the price. However the case was in PERFECT condition and packaged well and everything. It's a solid case and I think I got a great price on it.

How to fit an earphone plug into small opening cases

I think this fits in the Cases, cases, cases thread.

A common complaint is that one's favorite 3rd party headphones or AUX audio cable doesn't fit into their new iPhone case.

A found some solutions...this one is pretty nice...

My recent Jawbone Jambox purchase came with a 36" long 1/8" to 1/8" flat ribbon stereo cable. The lightest weight cable I've seen. Fits like the Apple OEM audio plug.

It fits perfectly into the narrow earphone opening in my Spigen Neo Hybrid EX Slim iPhone 5 case!!! Comes in many colors too.

$14.95. I'm sure it will fit into ANY iPhone case as it is the same size as the OEM Apple supplied earphone.

Jawbone - Products for Your Mobile Lifestyle

A great solution to interface your AUX input audio device or car jack...and if necessary, purchase any 1/8" male to female extension...like the ones sold by Amazon or Radio Shack...as its size doesn't matter.

I got the red one, which goes well my Dante Red case. A black came with the JamBox. Which is great btw.

I have to say, I am jealous of this cases thread in the Apple forum.

I think this belongs in the Cases thread as always.

I just came back from traveling to two wildlife sanctuaries. My blue leather case on the phone got quite grimy specially around the edges and the on/off switch area. I tried to wipe it of with a damp cloth but didn't get much cleaner, so I took it off and washed in mild dish detergent and water (wasn't too sure if the case or the color would get damaged). The inside took awhile to dry but the case now looks new.

After it dried I used a leather cleaner/polisher that's for car seats, I really like the results. :)

If anyone wants to wash their leather case though, your mileage may vary ;)

Yes, comparing and buying cases for your iPhone are the never ending fun part ;)

There is a solution for you in that regard...:)

Good tips Charlyee. My tan Sena case would get grim on it, but not as much as I've read about the Apple leather. You seem to have found a method that works better than other posts I've seen.

Still rocking with my Spigen bumper (and my LifeProof Fre, and my Spigen Slim Armor, and my Belkin Grip Candy, and my SFbags window leather pouch, and my dyed black SwitchEasy Tones, and my Poetic Atmosphere...you get the idea).

Well, it is mainly the Spigen Neo bumper, the SFbags Hint pouch, and the Lifeproof Fre.

That's OK. I can't get an iPhone after using a 5.7" screened Beast. I will just deal lol

But feel free to hook me up with an iPhone if you want. I can always update my opinions on the OS.

Well my Neo hybrid ex slim bumper snapped, at the power port. 7 months of use. I guess I took it on and off too many times.

Using my metal slate color of the same bumper for now. Ordered another one in Dante Red.

Also ordered the Neo Hybrid version. Same thickness as the bumper, but has a back. And probably the best reviewed case I've seen.

    That's a very nice looking case :)

I haven't looked at getting a another case ever since I got my leather case back in November. I really like the fit and finish of it both on the iPhone and the iPad and now that it has survived my cleaning, I am impressed with the ruggedness and durability as well.

The only thing I would consider doing different is perhaps to get the brown color for a more classic leather look.

I can attest to the ruggedness of leather cases. I saw an iPhone 5 in a leather case (one that flips over to cover the screen) hit the pavement at 35mph. Nothing happened to the phone at all, the case of course got scratched up from the 10-15 yard slide it took the phone to come to a complete stop.

Lol, my wife doesn't have a leather case and there was no window to through anything out of :) My buddy had taken a couple of shots and didn't stuff the phone all the way down the jersey pocket before starting the descent and after a couple of rattles the phone flew out. Fortunately for the phone the road we were descending was pretty curvy, so we were only doing about 30 mph at the time. Had it been a straighter descent the phone would've kissed the pavement on the better side of 40mph :)

    Lol. Good story dmapr.

I loved my leather flip case. Flip hinge was on the bottom. But the 5's placement of the audio jack at the bottom, made it unworkable. And last time I looked, mfgr's didn't really accommodate. Side hinges don't work cause of the camera lens.

Miss it. But very happy with my bumper case presently.

Charlyee. That wood case was very nice to the touch too.

I'll try to remember to look at his case next time we're riding. I don't recall whether his was hinged at the bottom or the side.

I have the white/silver Spigen Saturn and the white/black Spigen Tough Armor for my 5s. Using the Saturn at the moment. I quite like Spigen products.

I talked myself into getting the brown leather for my phone, I will post after I have used it for a couple of days.

Of course now my phone and iPad won't match any more. Hmmm :D

lol vf, it didn't need much twisting at all.

I have always regretted not getting the brown. The reason I had the blue was I wanted it to match the iPad and it's cover was beyond the possible return date.

Brown has always been my choice.

I like Spigen products too. None has ever scratched my phone.

I actually like the 5C series. Seen a lot of them lately. I'd go caseless with that.

I like Spigen products products as well. I have the white and silver in the ultra slim series.

Some additional information on the Apple case, I looked into ordering from Apple and at the lowest shipping cost of $4.00 the eta was 3/12.

So I ordered it from BB and with RZ card of Elite Plus status ( I obviously spend way too much there :D), the expedited shipping was free and I should get it by Wednesday.

I did realize after I placed the order that I had a RZ coupon that I forgot to apply.
